If Neil doesn’t believe in the city of Portland, then how is he going to sell free agents... if players like Jimmy Butler were locked up long term then they wouldn’t be available in trade for lesser talent... Neil doesn’t respect the city of Portland and that is why he won’t entertain trading CJ for Butler... he doesn’t believe free agents will fall in love with Portland and resign... OKC and Toronto’s GMs believes in their city and took gambles, and Paul George resigned and Kawai is likely as well... Hollywood Neil thinks the city of Portland is a joke and will never take a gamble so this team will remain mediocre

Some days I definitely think that--but then NO also says how much players end up loving the city once they actually live here and realize the summers are actually really nice etc.

Bad examples. OKC sucks and we don’t know what will happen to Toronto yet. And Oladipo turned out to be better than PG13.

Don't forget Olshey's main motive, his own draft legacy-building. Olshey maximizes McCollum's stats by keeping him under his wing.

I think it’s more simple than that, he’s just not willing to take that big of a risk. And CJ is his pick. Know what’s funny? Every first round pick he’s ever drafted (that also suited up) is still with him, including Aminu. The only one that isn’t is Bledsoe, but I bet he’d be around too if we didn’t have Lillard.

Daryl Morey: "Give up PJ Tucker for Butler?! mmmm i don't know guys, that price is pretty steep for my liking".

Brooklyn Nets: "You honestly expect us to give up CARIS LEVERT for this Butler fellow?! who is he again? *hangs up*.

Blazers Fans: "We'll give you CJ!! fuck CJ! you want draft picks? we got draft picks! take them! we don't need any obligations from Buler or medical documents just PLEASE PLEASE send Jimmy here so he can save us! god, we're so desperate!"

I think trading CJ for Butler, only to have to max a Thibs guy that constantly injured (we all know Thibs runs his players into the ground) is a mistake. Is rather have CJ's contract than butler's future one.

The key is to add Butler to our core without losing CJ.

And butler id's NOT PG or Kawhi. Stop acting like he'd do what they've done.

    Prime Kawai = Lebron stopper.

    Prime Butler = Lebron's doormat.

The only way that Jody Allen will approve of a trade for Butler is if CJ goes out; otherwise it will become too expensive. Butler and Dieng for CJ and Harkless.

I'd say Butlers trade value continues to go up, as planned.
He and Thibs are working it real good. There both going to get what they want, Butler to a team of his liking and Thibs a legit star player or close to one.

Turner/Leonard/Aminu is almost an exact dollar match for Butler/Dieng. Portland takes on the risk of Butler not coming back and take on Dieng's salary. Aminu's salary comes off the books and Turner sets up KAT and Wiggins well. Portland gets the better player but takes on the risk and extra salary long term.

Way too early to speculate, but it FEELS like Minny is throwing their season away by keeping Butler - they're 3-4 with Utah on deck, not terrible but still...

I don't either but I read something about that she is in charge of everything that Paul did now; she has talked about carrying on the things he was interested in but I got the impression she was talking about scientific and charitable endeavors. I didn't get the impression that sports were important to her (and possibly not to Paul in his last days). This is all my conjecture and speculation.

Based on what? HOU supposedly offered MIN four first round picks and two injured players for Butler. MIN supposedly turned that down:

Now there are rumors that MIN leaked the HOU offer in a move to get MIA back to the table.

The last time MIA had discussions with MIN it ended with Pat Riley hanging up on them.

"The LA Clippers and Brooklyn Nets — two teams with significant July salary cap space and a mutual free agent with Butler — haven’t been engaged for weeks with Minnesota, league sources said."

I'm not exactly sensing any kind of bidding war here.

We may have to throw in Baldwin and the rights to Federico Kammerichs and maybe a Top-55 protected 2nd round pick...but that's it!

I’d send them whatever they wanted except for Dame/CJ/Collins.

With the way Collins is developing those 4 together might push us into a conference championship series.

A more realistic option might be to hope this is the real Sauce and he keeps getting more confidence and with Zach’s continuing development maybe by the end of the season both are playing most of their minutes on the court with Dame/CJ/Nurk. It seems that Sauce and Collins have good chemistry on the court together.
