Honestly, I haven't seen any legit reports that anybody much better was available. Maybe I just missed it... But we got about what I expected from those contracts.
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome back to Class, Dignity,Vision, and Trust. I COULD NOT FUCKING BE HAPPIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Character matters. You'll see.
Seeing "past the surface" is not a skill many in here possess. The whole "we treaded 4 starters for this!!...." argument proves it.
I actually like that, he has a proper plan and is willing to commit to it. It is much better imho than trying to maximize individual trades over not being afraid to tear it down to build it as the plan dictates. There is always a chance that it will fail (but that's true for any GM), but at least, there is a proper plan and the willingness to run it. This team did not have any plan other than add stuff around Dame and CJ before.
i mean... this was expected given the autonomy he had to hire and fire staff. i'm just waiting to see if they hire someone above him.
Now that they've got this fixed.. The next move we TrailBlazer people need to see is the elimination of the people above him. Bye Bye Jody & Bert....
Wouldn't hold my breath on that til 2025 at least. I mean a President of Basketball Ops hire. I suppose the somewhat newsworthy item in this release is the clear demarcation they're making about Cronin as "GENERAL MANAGER" and not PoBO.
shit. i just realized .... my avatar curse has finally lifted. wow. That was almost a decade long run.
I've been paying attention and I've only seen 'reports' of two offered alternative trades, both for CJ: * Atlanta - Gallinari + filler + a future protected 1st * Dallas - Powell + Kleber + future protected 1st * Pelicans - Hart + Louzada + 21M TPE + 3.3M TPE + future protected 1st comparing what Blazers got to what was offered looks like the Blazers got the best return, especially considering it took a perfect storm of unfavorable circumstances to screw the Blazers out of the 11th pick a lot of people don't accept that though and seem convinced that Cronin was stupid and refused better offers and/or missed better opportunities I think Norm Powell's contract had negative value, and Nance's injury history left him with almost no positive value as an expiring personally, I think Cronin might have been able to get a little better draft package from the Pels. Maybe the better of the Pels or Laker picks, both top-4 protected. Of course if he would have accomplished that only to see the Lakers leap-frog into the top-4, the same people calling Cronin stupid now, would be calling him stupid after the lottery I remain convinced that Cronin was operating under some fairly specific trade deadline instructions from the Vulcans. Those were: * dismantle the dead-end roster * get under the tax * significantly cut future payroll obligations it may even have included a demand to trade CJ and Powell no matter what. If all that's true, considering what Cronin did at the trade deadline it's no surprise he got the GM job
as a staunch critic of all his moves, i wonder the same question. but there's something to be said about convincing Dame to stay after all the noise from last year. Navigating that stuff, with his health, with all the organizational turmoil only to end up in a situation where Dame is ten toes in and as fully committed as ever during a full-on tanking season is an achievement.
EXTREMELY happy he gets a chance to complete his job. He took a team going nowhere….FOR YEARS, hit reset and now gets to complete that. My thought is that it can’t be worse than Olshey’s teams. Purgatory is awful.
Mainly, I didn't hate his moves like many in here do. I'm happy he actually went forward with breaking up the dame cj backcourt. And I've liked what I've heard him say about moves and direction going forward.
