I'm more concerned we're going to give Grant $110m or something like that. Losing him for nothing would be less than ideal also.
I'm guessing he's gonna average around 28M per year when he becomes extension eligible. That's a lot, but when the new TV deal comes in, it's not going to be outrageous.
He'll probably come in when Hart goes out...Hart is playing big minutes...that way we always have an elite pt of attack defender on the floor.
I hear you, but that is exactly how we justified $200m to Meyers, Turner, Crabbe, Harkless, and Festus.
Okay to be fair, Grant is better than all those guys combined. Also, it's well documented that Grant's looking for his max extension of 4/112: https://bleacherreport.com/articles...he-market-for-nba-trade-deadlines-grand-prize I have to imagine part of the push internally (from Grant's side) to choose Portland over other suitors like Phoenix/Milwaukee was that Portland was one of the only teams willing to give that to him. He also could have signed an extension around 22M/year when he was traded from Detroit but that never happened. I expect a deal to be inked in mid December when he becomes eligible. I would even say it's a forgone conclusion with the way he's played so far. The deal will also start at 24M, not 28M. By the time it reaches the 30M mark we'll be well into the new TV deal salary cap and it will look much more reasonable. Either way, I'd much rather be paying 28M for a two way forward than 30+ for a one way guard like CJ. Or 30+ for a one way guard in Norm Powell + a one way forward in RoCo. Average salary for a starting level player is like 20M and I would say Grant is at least above average.
It's really not. 2 way forwards are the most valuable commodity in the league. I can't image the team lets go of the first two way forward they've hand in almost a decade because they want to quibble over 3-4 million a year.
Oh no doubt they’re extending this guy. Doesn’t make sense NOT bring him back if you traded a 1st for him and he’s been playing well. For some reason, I’m optimistic the number is going to be less than the $28m figure you’ve stated though. I can see $28m being the figure of the last year of his extension, but I’d still feel uneasy if $28m is the yearly average. The deal is already likely in place, so let’s hope it’s lower than that.
Kay....so since I am new to the board, I just read all 22 pages. Some memorable posts for sure. Here are a few worth noting (I try to only regurgitate positive).
thanks for the rundown....Pete Townshend, wow...did you ask him how many guitars he smashed in his early years?....and I apologize Wade, I know you work at the Moda but I can't recall what your job is?
I like Grant. I liked CJ. I'm against paying #3 options #1b money. I'm trying to stay consistent here.
