You're right, it makes a whole lot more sense to compare Joel to Andrew Bynum, and jump up and down over the first 14 games of an 82 game season than it does for me to critcize him.

The bottom line is Joel is playing his best basketball of his career. In fact I'd make the argument that as of today, he's among the top 10 centers in the league. Sure, it's early and sure things will change. But, consider that Joel has done what he's done against the top centers in the league. Think about that a give him his f'n due.

I meant to correct you on this earlier. Here are a few big men who ARE shooting 60%

    1. Adonal Foyal - 4ppg 66% fg

    2. Erick Dampier - 5.2ppg 64% fg

    3. Donyell Marshall 5.7 ppg 60% fg (he's a PF though)

    4. Chris Mihm - 2.8 ppg 60% fg

I could also put Mikki Moore and Leon Powe on this list.

So obviously the company that Joel is keeping is not that great. FG% is overrated when it is only because teams don't bother to guard these guys or in Mihm's case his points come in garbage time because the Lakers are blowing teams out every night.

Przy is at least 17% higher than everyone on your list and he averages more rebounds/per than all of those listed.

    He sucks!

    Come on!

Mihm doesn't qualify with too few shots.

Foyle doesn't qualify with too few minutes. He has only played 13 minutes. Sheesh.

    Marshall is not a Center.

Dampier. Has scored 5.25% of Dallas' points so far this season. Defensive Rebounding 22%. Not rebounding nearly as dominantly as Joel (or Oden who matches Joel's high Defensive Rebounding % number). And Dampier is what he is, and that kind of Center play has him earning $12 million this season.

Joel has scored 6.3% of Portland's points so far this season.

pryz is currently the 11th ranked center in PER, Oden 6th, bynum 8th, sheed 12th, kaman 13th, miller 21st, dampier 23rd, okur 25th. Pryz is getting less blocks this year, but he is playing great man defense, and altering ALOT of shots, things that PER doesnt recognize.

he is actually #51 in the entire league, ahead of derrik rose, tayshaun prince, AI, david west, gerald wallace, steve nash etc, etc.

Maybe this has already been mentioned and I missed it amongst all the bickering... What impresses me most about Pryz this season is not the [astounding] rate he's making shots, rather how well he's catching the ball. All his shots are clean looks as a result of not fumbling the entry passes and rebounds.

You need to learn to read. I didn't say why isn't ANYONE else shooting about 60%, I said, if it's so easy why isn't EVERYONE else doing it. Do you see the difference?

Because he's doing it at a highly efficient rate. And since when does doing what you are supposed to do, and doing it very well == you suck?

Not really. Wally's job is to hit the open 3 and spread the defense. He's currently shooting 0.294 from 3-point range. I guess that's why nobody's "on his nuts".

I compared him to another starting center in the same conference. How exactly is that a "horrible" comparison.

Please, Bynum plays with Kobe, Gasol, Odom, etc. - who made it to the NBA finals last season. I'd say it's pretty safe to say he has better players around him the Joel.

Since when does doing what you are supposed to do make someone deserving or credit. If you guys are giving Joel all these props I can only imagine the type of worship your garbageman gets.

Because Bynum was out most of last year with an injury. It doesn't make sense that people are making excuses (rightfully so) for Oden, but then comparing Joel to Bynum. Get it?

Yup, and it's a lot harder to get in the flow playing with those guys than it is with Roy (who is much more unselfish).

I also want to respond to whoever it was that said Joel is a top 10 center right now. I'm going to call your bluff, list your top 10 centers. Anyone who agrees that he is a top 10 center, list them, and lets talk about that.

That's Bullshit. You also said that Joel is ahead of Sheed, Okur, and others who are clearly better than him. So is PER really a stat you can use to determine who is a top player? No.

So is anybody going to list their top 10 centers and actually have Joel on that list?

it really depends on what you want out of your center. you want 3 pointers? brad miller and okur are cool. you need rebounding and defense? pryzz is at the top of that list. it is subjective.

It doesn't matter if he is top ten or bottom ten. He helped save our butts tonight. He is playing his best ball. I say we keep him until he wears out. He's a veteran and helps steady the team. Cut him some slack guys.

Way to sidestep my question. You said Joel sucks. Even if you don't think he deserves credit for the way he's playing, you have yet to explain exactly how a guy, who has one of the top rebound rates in the league (again) is a solid interior defender and just happens to be shooting 83% from the field, sucks. He deserves credit for doing his job and doing it well. Since when does that == sucking?

Nice attempted strawman. We're not talking about a garbage time player, we're talking about a guy who has started the majority of the games this year.

    Joel's line tonight:

    10 PT, 12 REB, 2 BLK, 2 STL, 5-6 FG, EFF = 24

Not bad for a guy who sucks.

Joel Przybilla is a mother fucking badass*. Period. Yet another ballsy performance.

One thing I'm curious about is why his shot blocking peaked a few seasons ago. Was it the "funnel" defense of Cheeks and the Blazer guards, or has his game changed?

*except against Shaq...oh well, I can forgive him for that.

If Joel didn't jack up that full-court heave, he would have finished a perfect 5-5.

The way he's playing, he's on my list. Who would you take ahead of him?

I don't have the burden of proof here. If he's on your list, then post your top 10 centers, anyone who agrees that he is in the top 10 should do the same.
