LOL. Sucks for the Jets.I'm sure they won't get Schaub now. If they do, then they'll have three quarterbacks. And THAT will be a HUGE controversy on who the starting quarterback should be.Oh well... I think Abraham's a BIT over-rated anyways...Though I'd rather have a veteran defensive lineman and a young safety than the other way around.

Well see though.

...Another point of evidence to my personal opinion that Atlanta has no chance of trading for Schaub.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Jets | More about Abraham situationFri, 17 Mar 2006 15:58:35 -0800ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports it is not known if the Seattle Seahawks are in contract negotiations with New York Jets franchise free agent DE John Abraham and his representatives. The sense around the league is that Abraham and his agents will try to hold off Seattle and pressure the Jets into a deal with the Atlanta Falcons. The one possibility no one seems to be considering is that the Jets simply retain Abraham and allow the situation to play out over the coming months. There is certainly no urgency to deal Abraham now. As noted earlier, the Falcons have agreed to a new contract with Abraham and the Seahawks have reached a trade agreement with the Jets. That leaves those two teams with half of the equation to acquire Abraham complete.</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>BERGEN RECORDBy RANDY LANGEThen in the main event, Tannenbaum played two-fisted poker with Atlanta and Seattle in an attempt to trade disgruntled defensive end John Abraham. The first to ante were the Falcons, who were reported to have agreed with Abraham's agents, Tony Agnone and Rich Rosa, on that long-term deal Abraham has coveted the past two seasons. The next part was proving more difficult: striking a deal for compensation with the Jets, who had franchise-tagged Abraham for the second straight year. The Falcons, apparently struggling with the concept of "trade", continued to balk at giving up value for one of the NFL's top edge rushers. They were rumored to be offering their second-round pick, 47th overall, but not their first-rounder, No. 15.Then Seattle raised. The Seahawks, who had visited with Abraham on Wednesday before he flew to Atlanta for a Thursday-Friday meeting, decided to work the other half of the trade. Before making a contract offer to Abraham, they offered the Jets their first-round pick, 31st overall."Seattle has the better offer on the table," an NFL source knowledgeable about the situation said. "What do you do if you're the Jets? You get the most you can in return."It's believed Abraham prefers Atlanta, which is closer to his South Carolina home. That's where he worked out feverishly all last off-season to be ready to play for the Jets in September under the terms of his first franchise-tag tender.By the mathematics of a popular draft-value chart, the Falcons would need to kick in a third-rounder to their second-round offer to meet the value of the Seahawks' first-round proposal. Or the Falcons could send the Jets their one while getting back a two or a three to balance the books.Friday night, all sides were mulling their hands. There was no word if the Seahawks had made headway in contract talks with Abraham's agents or if the Falcons had decided to sweeten their draft-choice package. The Jets have another option, which is to fold their cards for this hand and retain Abraham. They have five weeks to make a predraft trade, then could still deal him by the sixth week of the regular season for picks in the 2007 draft."Sure, that's still possible," the league source said.</div>

Jets asking too much for Abrahamhttp://www.nypost.com/sports/jets/63254.htm<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>March 17, 2006 -- JACKSONVILLE - It's still relatively early in the offseason game, but the way maneuvers around the league have been transpiring, things have not exactly fallen the right way for the Jets.At the moment, they seem to be one of the few teams around the league with pressing quarterback issues and they're shopping around disgruntled franchised DE John Abraham with seemingly no legitimate suitors for their price. While Abraham's whirlwind visitation tour had him in Atlanta yesterday talking to the Falcons, one day after he was wined and dined in Seattle, multiple sources around the league told The Post that the Jets' asking price for him appears too high. The Jets have been adamant about landing a first-round draft pick for Abraham, whom Oakland is now interested in. Of late, they've talked to the Falcons about using Abraham in a trade for backup quarterback Matt Schaub to no avail. More on Schaub in a moment."They might have to settle for a second-round draft pick for Abraham," one prominent league source told The Post. "I don't think anyone's going to give them a first-round pick for him."Denver, who was interested in Abraham has two first-round draft picks, including the 29th overall pick, and still the Jets and Broncos could not come to a trade agreement, presumably because Denver didn't want to part with either of its first-round picks. The Jets' problem, of course, is a serious lack of leverage.Everyone in the league knows the Jets have no interest whatsoever in retaining Abraham, particularly since they're switching to a 3-4 defense as their base front. And, everyone in the league knows that Abraham, ticked off about being franchised for the second consecutive year, has no interest in remaining with the Jets. Abraham's harsh comments told to the Post's Steve Serby several weeks ago pretty much severed any ties he has with the team.A problem with the Atlanta-Jets negotiation, about which "talks are ongoing," according to a source familiar with the negotiations, was that the Jets don't possess what the Falcons need if they're going to trade Schaub.Atlanta, according to sources with intimate knowledge of its thinking, refuses to part with Schaub unless it can get a legitimate backup who can win games in case starter Michael Vick is injured. The Falcons have two things the Jets would love to wrest away with Abraham as bait: either the Falcons' 15th overall first-round pick or Schaub. They're not parting with the pick or Schaub. In fact, Falcon management has marching orders from team owner Arthur Blank not to move Schaub unless they get a can't-miss backup in return because Blank is petrified of being in same spot as he was in 2003 when Vick was injured early in the season and Doug Johnson took over and floundered, ruining the season."They have to get a credible backup that can win football games, not just another guy," a source said</div>

    1) Yeah, Seattle is only offering their first rounder for Abraham, but were asking for too much when we tell Atlanta they need to top that offer for Abraham. [IMG] 2) Hello....Patrick Ramsey is a 'capable backup' so that they could trade Schaub. [IMG] 3) Denver stopped negotiating for Abraham when they found out his price tag was 15-18 million in guaranteed money, not because we were asking for too much.Another NY sports writer who has no idea what hes talking about.....
