Shit, if I win powerball by myself I can buy a large chunk of a team and hire Kate Beckinsale or someone like her. Then I can start a thread like that. Yippeeeeee!

I don't usually like to crossover sports like that but it's a good analogy. Pete Carrol has been successful in the NFL, but you're right it often doesn't translate. I'm sure There have been college coaches who have become great NBA coaches, but I don't remember any current ones.

Can anyone here name the last coach to go from college to NBA with success?

Bill Fitch, the 2nd-greatest coach in history! 40 years ago, my friend and I used to quiz each other on factoids. He asked me which college Fitch coached at, and I surprised him with "Coe." This stuff about college coaches failing as pro coaches has been going on forever, for both basketball and football.

I'll stash it first. But, 800 million can buy a lot of lawyers.

I really wouldn't mind him as a coach, I think he has probably changed and learned a lot since he first coached in the NBA.

The contract he seeks is insane but would I care if we or some other team did it? No, not my money.

Because he's exhibited such great coaching over the past two decades? He promises HS kids they'll go at the top of the NBA draft if they pretend to go to class for a mere year, gets a boatload of blue chip recruits, and as a result always has a competitive team that overwhelms everyone athletically and occasionally overachieves.

Are coaches salaries included in thew annual cap for the team? Or is that for players only and the coaching staff is on top of?

I doubt he'd have a ton of success. Maybe if he was younger. Calipari isn't a coaching trendsetter. He's the best recruiter in the nation. The guy could sell me the latest Rod Stewart CD and make me thankful to have it.

Coaches aren't part of the cap. Up to each owner how much he wants to spend on one.
