OT John McCain, War Hero, Senator, Presidential Contender, Dies at 81

No, I don't think so.

 

When my father passed I tried to find good memories to reflect on and he was a man who was very flawed and made some really bad decisions throughout his life...he called me from his deathbed in the middle of the night and I was across the world in another country and for 3 hours apologized for many decades of mistreating my mom and us kids...it was heartfelt...I chose to forgive him his struggles and make peace with him after a lifetime of disagreeing about just about everything...I would be shocked if people talked about his flaws at his funeral..give it a couple of months and start another thread about how McCain was flawed and I have no problem with it....choices. My dad was orphaned during the great depression and had serious PTSD after he got back from the war. It was after he passed I put those things in perspective...learned to respect his struggles without making comparisons..he was a decorated war hero as were my uncles.

 

This was an interesting take, "The only respect we owe the dead is to tell the truth."

Sounds good but really not the case. Sometimes, if you have nothing good to say, then saying nothing at all is appropriate for the moment. Saying, Palin was not the reason I could not vote for McCain was pretty close to saying nothing.

 

I like dviss..agree with most everything he posts...was not my intention to piss him off but when something bothers me I'll speak out...everybody does.

Speaking bluntly about the dead may sound righteous in principle to some, but people typically don't always speak the naked truth right after a person's death or even at their funeral.

At the many many funerals I've attended I've never heard the minister or the person giving the eulogy badmouth the recently deceased....and as praise is heaped on the deceased I have never ever heard someone stand up and holler "Bullshit, he was a lying scheming POS".....even if everyone in attendance knew it was true.

I said nothing disrespectful about McCain and lauded his evolution. None of that was taken into account because I had genuine criticism.

I will always tell the truth as I know it. I will never knowingly speak an untruth.
