RENO, Nev., Oct. 15 (Ticker) -- Avery Johnson scored 16 points off the bench as the Golden State Warriors posted an 89-71 exhibition victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday.

Golden State played without newcomer Nick Van Exel, who suffered a sprained left knee in practice on Monday. Van Exel had surgery on both knees last season, forcing him to miss nine games with Dallas.

Clifford Robinson scored 13 points and Erick Dampier fouled out with 11 and 11 rebounds for the Warriors. Speedy Claxton, who missed Monday's practice with a strained right groin, handed out nine assists.

Brent Barry scored 16 points and Rashard Lewis added 11 for Seattle, which managed just nine points in the second quarter. Ray Allen, who had 17 points in Tuesday's victory over Portland, did not play.

Golden State forward Troy Murphy (plantar fasciaitis in right foot) and center Adonal Foyle (left knee stiffness) missed their fourth straight game.

Warriors first-round pick Mickael Pietrus totaled five points and committed four turnovers in 22 minutes.

He was brought in mainly for veteran leadership. If he can contribute in other ways like scoring, that would be a huge plus for the Warriors.
