Cherry pick Cherry pick, let me play please please, In the final month of the season (September)....... McCann only hit 177 Headley only hit 192 Gardner only hit 207 Ellsbury only hit 217 A-Roid only hit 230
Well, hell yeah Rick- which is why I thought it was kinda newsworthy and/or laughable when I brought up CC's anomalously good final two months (and one Oct start) especially when compared to the rest of the "team". Wasn't trying for anything else but pointing out how he kinda flew under the radar as the team was going into the tank- that's all. I know he had a bad season.
^^^yup, like I've been saying, if someone tries really hard, they can talk themselves into anything and if they dig hard enough then can also find a way to justify it.
...^^^ yep, one can take numbers and make a shit smell like a rose, or vice versa ....in this case shit is shit...!
Sorry Rick but I beg to differ- your examples are not "cherry picking". Those are real life concrete bottom line stats for a specific significant point of the season.
Yes, because after all, 1 month of stats is a more tangible barometer than 5 months. ...That's why "batting AVERAGE" is based on a whole season instead of 1 month... and why "earned run AVERAGE" is based on a whole season instead of 1 month. ...Who gives a shit what CC did for 1 month last year when he's been sucking for 3 years?
Okay - a few points before I finish up my end on this subject. 1) I don't believe I was cherry picking when I brought up the Sabathia issue. If he had struggled along barely getting past the 4th or 5th inn and I mentioned only his 2.87 ERA- that would be classic "cherry picking". But he pitched at least 6 inn in six of those 9 starts, and 6.2 in three of them as I mentioned. 2) My vision is fine and I can read numbers- and CC's overall performance for the season was lousy! 3) A couple of you alluded to one month from CC but I specifically mentioned his final two months Aug/Sept (and one start in Oct). 4) I began my comment on CC by saying: "Okay fellas, we can always use a good laugh". For some reason it turned into some kind of Spanish Inquisition, lol. 5) Maybe my comment would've been better received if I used the word ironic instead of "laugh"? 6) Why is it we don't hear the words "cherry picking" when a couple of Yankee hitters are singled out for having a bad 2nd half or final month?
...Yes, because after all, 9 starts "is a more tangible barometer" than 69 starts. ("last 3 years") ... "if someone tries really hard, they can talk themselves into anything and if they dig hard enough then can also find a way to justify it."
Some people just refuse to read and acknowledge the actual written words of others. I'm considering some other language which may be more easily read and understood.
