I don’t think people are classifying it as a major L. More like not enough. How many years in a rough are we going to reshuffle the chairs
It's like ordering a coke and getting an RC Cola. Still gonna drink it... but I'm not really pleased.
Except this is you ordering a scotch on the rocks, and getting the coke you are owed. You didn't get low value on Hart.
Hart was gonna be gone anyway and honestly I’m feeling like Grant is gonna walk too. Ship Nurk out and at least we will have some young cheap pieces, picks, and a bit of flexibility.
If NY makes the playoffs a pick from 15-20 is great value. But I can see why some are disappointed, this is clearly a move that makes the Blazers much worse this season. Brings up questions of the long term plans, why give up draft picks for one year of Grant, resign a veteran Nurk, sign an old Payton which hard caps the team if they weren't trying to win in 2022-23? Why stay under the luxury tax if your trying to win with veterans? Why keep Dame if your rebuilding? This franchise doesn't have a clear win now or clear youth rebuilding direction. It seems like every few months the plans change. So I can see why some fans might be very disappointed with this trade, especially if they were rooting for the Blazers to win now. I've questioned this franchise since they fired Neil. Not that I though he was great, but he seemed very consistent in what he was trying to accomplish. I don't see any clear strategy from the Cronin/Jody duo, although I did love the Sharpe pick. Hoping the franchise now will put more effort into a patient long rebuild and let Dame put on his show as the Lakers did with a washed up Kobe and young picks.
How is getting a 1st round pick for a role player that we were going to lose anyway because we can’t afford to resign him not enough though?
Because I can’t tell if we care more about the future than the now. Choose one. Try and get a contender around Lillard or go all in on the future. I’m fine with either. But just go all in on whatever we’re going to do.
"Terrible trade." "It’s a terrible trade. Reddish sucks." "Terrible trade" "shit deal as expected" I could go on....
The plan was simple: Get the best asset in return for an asset that was going to be worth NOTHING in June.
We traded a rotation guy and we didn't get a rotation guy in return. So far we have dealt how many rotation guys and gotten how many in return? Out: CJ Nance RoCo Norm Hart In: Reddish Grant Winslow Keon Does that seem like a fair trade?
Package the expiring. Those are nice for teams wanting to clear the books. I’d think Simons and Hart’s expiring would be a nice package for a good player.
It's a gigantic win. A FRP is so insanely valuable. It greases the skids for trades all the time. If we were to take the protections of the pick by trading with Chicago we could theoretically offer 4 FRP plus anyone not named Dame or Sharpe for Durant for example. If that FRP from the Knicks is what lets us keep Sharpe and get Durant, I'm building him a statue. I'm not saying that's what's happening (I mean it's almost certainly not), but man do FRP's get seemingly overvalued by GM's simply because they are so liquid in trades. That's why Ainge is actually a genius. People can hate on him all they want but look how many FRP's he has. And he's in the sweepstakes this year for Wemby unless they owe someone that pick?
Obviously, there are more moves in the chamber here. Not sure what options we have as far as renouncing the additional pieces we got back, but, as others have said, we now have too many players on the roster. We also have potential moves to be made. I loved Josh as a player and if he couldn't stay a Blazer I'd really like to see him back as a Blazer someday as he continues his tour of the league. However, if re-signing him wasn't an option, getting back a pick in the teens and a 23-year-old lottery ticket with a couple of additional pieces isn't the worst return for losing him for 30 games. Plus, there's some superfluousness in his game and Nas' and we have the opportunity to speed up Shaedon's learning curve, perhaps. This team isn't playing for a championship this year, so acquire assets for next year and the couple of years after that. There's still redundancy on this roster with GP2 and Keon. We've played most of the year without Justise, so I wouldn't be shocked if he's moved. Nurk is a possibility. I honestly didn't think we were going to do much but the return on the Hart trade makes me think there's a really good chance we see Cronin make a couple of more deals tomorrow.
We traded a rotation player for a reclamation project who has been dumped by two mediocre teams and a pick that MIGHT end up being a FRP.
