I’m not up to date on this thread but before I catch up I’ll state my opinion.

I’m livid at this man or anyone who diminishes the importance and hate crimes and provides an easy obfuscation to truly salient problem in our society.

Hate crimes have risen 17% in the past year and yet assholes like this make a real problem look made up. He should be ridiculed and all fans should disavow (I didn’t know who he was till this). Hopefully prosecutors will be successful and he will have a conviction and perhaps a short stint in jail for this hoax.

I think a good majority of movies are shit these days anyways. Writing is poor. I have been saying I feel like all the quality has shifted towards television shows now that we have streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Disney is coming up. Original content. Movies these days are just plain bad which explains why they constantly are remaking classics. It’s lazy. When Christopher Nolan or Tarantino makes a movie, I’m all in but I can’t recall the last recent quality movie I have seen. I can name many shows off though.

The story is, currently, that he did it partially because he was upset about his salary. that's the most maddening thing about it. Why would getting beat up get him more salary?

    Hell of a good question.
Seems like the good superintendent does not want to say the real reason for staging the stunt. I probably has more to do with the MAGA hats than salary.
I think they will choke just saying it, so they won't.

Outpouring of affection leads to potential rating boost, which in turn leads to salary bump.

Whitaker said he was “particularly troubled by the increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes,” which are already the most common type of religious hate crime in the United States.

Anti-Semitic hate crimes rose 37 percent in 2017. Anti-Islamic hate crimes declined 11 percent last year, with 273 such incidents, the data show.

The new FBI data comes less than a month after the worst anti-Semitic attack in U.S. history — a shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue that killed 11 and wounded six. The suspect in that attack has been charged with dozens of federal hate crimes, and that one incident alone accounted for nearly as many hate crime killings as were recorded all of last year in the United States: 15.

Jonathan A. Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, said the report “provides further evidence that more must be done to address the divisive climate of hate in America. That begins with leaders from all walks of life and from all sectors of society forcefully condemning anti-Semitism, bigotry, and hate whenever it occurs.”

I don't think that would actually work out that way though.

Im woefully ignorant here so, please dont beat me up too badly, how do they determine whats a hate crime and what is just someone being a crappy person? Im sure in some cases its fairly clear that they targetted a certain group, be it race, gender, sexuality, or world view.
In some cases someone may have killed 3 “insert group” but it wasnt driven by hate for that group, but something else.

I think to prosecute as a hate crime the government has to show some evidence that it was. If there isn't any, then it doesn't get charged as (or convicted as) such.

Can any of you trumpers explain why trump tweeted out about this case, but has been completely silent on a assassination plot of several Democratic candidates, Democratic politicians and some news people? Which one do you think is a more national concern?

Just a relatively uninformed guess, but I'd say one fits his political narrative and the other does not?
