What I would do: 4/54 What we will probably do: 4/75 Anything more than 13.5/14 is stupid. Realistically I don’t want to go above about 12.5.
His 1st year salary is almost guaranteed to be over 14.4 million. We could have extended him last season starting at that number, for 4 more seasons. If he was taking that, it would already have been done, IMO.
Good point. I wouldn't think its just one or two million over either. So probably at least 17 million if not 20 million starting salary. So that gets him to 4/80 ish or more?
I actually think Nurk is about to break out into the best basketball of his career. He's more mature, and knows what works on the court. I went with 4 / 72 mil.
i think nurk will announce his new contract once free agency opens it will be #nurkbomb, not #wojbomb
Four years is too long for Nurk imo. I would be fine with paying 3 years/$50m if there was a TO in year 3.
no player in his prime will take 3 year contract with 3rd year being team option, second contract is usually the most lucrative one even 3 year contract with all years being fully guaranteed isnt something players in their prime accept, unless they have no better offers be sure nurk will get big payday, otherwise he wouldnt accept to get shut down in a contract season right in the moment when he was playing best ball of his career
So when it comes to trade value of our players we always over-value what we should get for them according to a lot around here. But, when it comes to free agency we always under-value what we should pay them. Hmm interesting
The Nurk we saw after the AS break but before he was shut down by the team was some the best ball I’d seen him play. With that guy though I’m always fearful of a serious injury after i watched his leg snap in half that one time
it's guessing what salary a player is worth so of course it's arbitrary. The metric I'm using is that players who consistently miss lots of games, year after year, are worth less than players who don't here's another arbitrary nugget: Blazers are 3-13 in the playoffs with Nurkic starting. Blazers are 8-8 with Kanter starting
this can be done in a quantitative way instead of randomly pulling a number out of thin air like you did. Maybe we compare his VORP and win shares with other centers and see how he fares... Maybe that's what the team does
He's a double-double center who can pass, defend, is 28 and had the 33rd best PER last year in the NBA (for those qualifying). Those not wanting to go over 12/13 per year are deluding themselves. It's not 2016 anymore when you can sign LeBron James for 100m over 3 years, making him the only one over 30m that year. Next year there will be 40 players (and counting) making over 30m. I mean there's already a contract in existence that will result in a player getting 60m/yr by the end of it. No matter what happens, just remember that Westbrook has a player option for 47 million... things could be worse.
