That wasn't dirty. What Dawkins did was. He got exactly what he deserved.

Didn't know if the Blazers' current defensive metrics necessarily deserved a new thread, but I thought this would be a good place to point out (and perhaps track going forward) where the Blazers rank league-wide in several key team-defensive metrics:
    • 3rd in points allowed at 99.2 ppg
    • 3rd in points allowed per 100 poss at 101.6
    • 4th in opponent FGM/g at 36.6
    • 3rd in opponent FG% at .433
    • 2nd in opponent 3PM/g at 8.6
    • 3rd in opponent 3p% at .321
    • 4th in opponent PPS at 1.19
    • 2nd in opponent adj FG% at .484
    • 1st in opponent assists at 17.2/100
    • 1st in opponent % assisted 2pFG at .370
    • 1st in shot blocking at 6.5/100
Honestly, I'm shocked at how many categories have the Blazers in the top 5. Who knew that the Blazers would morph into the Utah Jazz?

And in my opinion, this is why we have struggled so much on offense. It's a lot of hard work to be good at defense. Your team has to be deep....... I myself would rather just outscore the other team than try to stop em.....more fun to watch. Proud of the above numbers though regardless.

that might be true, but Im not sure thats the reason why Dame & CJ dont drive more to the basket
they NEED to do that more, especially when their shot is off

    Dame is doing that:
    9E9B297F-A03B-4A28-90CF-7D49382639CE.jpeg

He’s shooting more often from 0-3 feet and less often from 3pt than at any time in his career.

    CJ is a bit different:

He’s shooting more 3pt than last year but given he’s nailing 52% of them, that’s probably fine.

Portland is 21st in pace, so their defensive numbers are a little exaggerated, but... At least Portland isn't setting records for shitty defense.

Most of the figures I listed (%'s and per-100 numbers) are pace independent. Only the pts/gm and fg/gm values above are affected by pace.

Don't try to discount it; they really have been excellent defensively.

True. If you add in the rebounding numbers, I think it will look even better. This team has had some dumb losses this season, but it's good to see the defense improving. It gives one hope.

I'm not trying to discount it, I'm happy Portland isn't setting records for shit ass defense.
I am however being consistent. I guess that's a bad thing to some...

Also at least 8 of the categorys you listed can be effected by pace one way or another.

I'll bite--which 8? I see 4, technically 5 if you count blocks (for which a slow pace is actually a hindrance, so it's not relevant to your argument).

If "being consistent" equates to unreasonably and exaggeratedly downplaying one of the few things we can actually be positive about in this early season, then yes, I think is safe to say that it's a bad thing to some.

You could argue that their problem is "chokage":

Games decided by 4 or less points: 2 wins, 4 losses
Games decided by 3 or less points: 1 wins, 3 losses
Games decided by 2 or less points: 0 wins, 2 losses

Hopefully this will balance out, or even move into our favor. However, this does (at least partially) explain how we can have an excellent +/- , and yet be only 1 game over .500.
