I think Kaman may close some games. He's quite a bit older than Lopez and I think it's wise to keep him around 20 minutes a game. I think everybody read your post, you just have to accept that they have different takes on what Kaman>Lopez stands for..
Initially, I thought this thread was going to be about Kaman being the better player overall and possibly suggesting he become the starter. Then I read your post clarifying the intent of the thread. To answer your question, I think Kaman is a better option for end of the game scoring situations.
I agree with this. We are just talking about certain match ups at the end of games when we are going offensive - defense and having Kaman on the floor can only help. Something I assume Terry has thought about as well.
Kaman is a bit of a black hole on offense (but a really good black hole). He's best as the #1 option off the bench. If he plays regularly with the starters, I fear it would harm the free flowing pass-heavy option.
Lopez is a much better offensive rebounder, which in a close game is sometimes exactly what you want. He doesn't have the jumper Kaman has, but he can hit free throws as well as Kaman can.
I'd like to see a little more Kaman with Aldridge. They play well with each other. I don't think we should change Kaman's role at all. Its working perfectly and I'm afraid of a Kaman injury. He's very important to keep healthy.
No. Kaman is a black hole on offense. He shoots the ball every time he touches it. We don't need that with the starters either at the beginning or end of the game. He is perfect for us off the bench and limiting his minutes allows him to be fresh and productive when he is on the court and may limit his injury potential. Conversely Fropez fits perfectly with the other starters and he's a monster defending the rim to close out games. The Lopez / Kaman one-two punch is AWESOME!
Situationally, maybe. But, I can't see an instance where late in a game, your preference is to give the ball to Kaman over Aldridge or Lillard. With that thinking, I prefer Robin.
That was me. I'm glad things came together the way they did, with Lopez firmly cemented in as a starter. Also, we're very fortunate that we're getting the Zach-Randolph-in-Memphis effect with Kaman. He's bounced around the league, had run-ins with coaches, fallen out of favor repeatedly, and he shows up here eager to just rehabilitate his career. He's a properly humbled guy who is happy to play a role in the team's success. We don't get this version of Kaman without Mike D'Antoni.
Giving more space for LA or Lillard to work would be one scenario. Kaman demands attention away from the basket more than Lopez does. For those who say Kaman is a black hole....he wouldn't be if he played with the starters. More importantly is that Kaman is a very good passer for a big man. Granted Lopez is good at these things too. But Kaman is just a little bit better at scoring. I agree with the "if it ain't broke" theory on this, but it is worth testing down the road. More than likely it will happen if Robin is hurt or in foul trouble.
I completely disagree. He is very good at passing and running the offense through him with the 2nd unit is ideal.
I just have to say btw, that Terry has been completely on point so far this season. With rotations, sets, player development, interviews, etc. Just a totally different feeling having this competency in coaching.
