Because that portion you quoted was simply showing their position in relation to the cap including cap holds and their available exceptions, whereas I am discussing actual salaries, not cap holds. The analysis is correct--prior to actually using the NTPMLE or exceeding the apron, both options are (mutually exclusively) available. However, as was stated father down in the analysis (thank you RR7), once the NTPMLE is used to sign a player for an amount greater than the TPMLE, the apron cannot be exceeded. You have yet to show any analyst who actually states that a team can both use the NTPMLE and also exceed the apron in the same year. The reason is obvious: because the CBA makes it very clear that you cannot, and nobody who actually knows what they're talking about would claim that you can.
Unfortunately, they can. The average salary bit only applies to the team offering the contract; the team matching only needs to use their MLE.
If the Blazers were going after Kanter, they would have done it IMO. It's not like there's other big guys they're waiting on. But I guess they could also be taking it slow.
I actually agree with you on Vonleh, but whether the plan is to develop him or showcase him, you need to play him.
mags has been having strange visions lately...I think he's been staring at melting stucco for too long.
Call what? Von being gone before the season starts? Hmmm let me think about this one for a minute.... ......... ......... ......... I don't know if this is trick question, but I'm gonna shoot from the hip.... A trade?
Rather than start yet another Kanter thread, I figure I'll just post in the one year has his name in the title. For those advocating strongly against Kanter--what is the material difference between his game and Aldridge's? I haven't watched him enough to be able to provide any educated analysis thereon.
But really, Enes is more efficient. LA shot 46% from 2 last year, Kanter shot 53%. Kanter has a good jump shot, but takes 70% of his shots within 10 feet. LA takes 65% of his shots beyond 10 feet.
No offense, Sinobas, but you were probably happier than anybody that Aldridge went elsewhere, so you're not quite who I wanted to hear from. I tend to agree with you that offensively, Kanter can provide as much, if not more, than Aldridge has/did. But how is Kanter a downgrade from LA? Is the general consensus that his defense is SO bad that his offensive efficiency is irrelevant? Would it be a different story if he were playing PF instead of C? Or would that make it even worse because of his (lack of) footspeed? Would it make a difference if he were playing with Aminu and Davis (like Aldridge flourishing while playing with Rolo)? The conventional wisdom is that LA's absence cripples this team. If Kanter's production is relatively similar, why wouldn't we want to bring him in to replace LA?
