Keeping our pick? This might be a Lottery year

Discussion in 'Portland Trail Blazers' started by TBpup, Dec 5, 2021.

?

Make the pick for the Future.....or trade it for 'now'?

  1. One last attempt

  2. Build for the future....one player won't make enough of a difference

  3. Get bad enough to where the pick makes an immediate impact

They weren't complete shit as numb nuts said. They won close to 60 games the previous year with much of the same roster. The team fell apart without their best player, and their role players suffered. That happens when a team relies on their star so much. Robinson came back in like December for 6 games after hurting his back in preseason and then he broke his foot and was out the rest of the season.

The Aaron afflalo trade was fine. It made sense until wes went down.

Stop equating a trade that made sense to anything that doesn't.

Jalen Duren and Dyson Daniels are my two guys right now assuming one pick 7-10 and one late lotto.

Dyson looked like he belonged in the rising stars game last night. Would give us another 6'6" two-way wing that can do a little of everything.

I like Duren in that range too. But, I prefer Mathurin as our 6'6 wing.

Julian Strawther is a wing that I like immensely. Good defender, great in transition, can shoot the 3.

    Seems like a Billups type.

Looked good. He's a Rick Barry disciple too.

    let's see now

    * in one case, a GM traded a backup guard and a 1st round pick for a backup guard
    * in the other case, the same GM traded a backup forward and a 1st round pick for a backup forward

    * in one case, the player played less than 40 games for Portland
    * in the other case, the player played less than 40 games for Portland

I guess I could gauge the difference by an arbitrary and subjective comparison of 'intentions'. That's the only way I could arrive at any kind of conclusion that one trade made sense and the other didn't

or, I can simply gauge the trades by results. That's easy and direct. That's what I'll do. Both trades sucked

Yeah you could argue we need more of an off the ball skillset and Mathurin might offer the best version of that of the 2/3 types. But like Agbaji, never been impressed by the ancillary skills

You get one result based off a factor of someone else getting injured.

It's alright. We can agree to disagree.

You sure he didn't just happen to be his coach for this game? I can't find any other connection between the two.

Dyson has a lot of Roy in his mannerisms (his layups are a near carbon copy) so there is definitely some aesthetic bias going on But I like his feel and defense for his age.

If you're already bottom 3 team you don't need to tank though...

Yeah, Robinson could have come back. They kept him out to tank.

If all they cared about was losing games why did they fire their shitty coach in the middle of the season?

That’s how I remember it as well. Pop was a Larry Brown disciple worked his way into the front office as GM. Then canned Hill and made himself coach.

I guess that’s one way of getting a head coaching gig

i don't see any scenario where he drops out of the top 4. he's got such a refined offensive game already
