Keeping our pick? This might be a Lottery year

Discussion in 'Portland Trail Blazers' started by TBpup, Dec 5, 2021.

?

Make the pick for the Future.....or trade it for 'now'?

  1. One last attempt

  2. Build for the future....one player won't make enough of a difference

  3. Get bad enough to where the pick makes an immediate impact

Ivey will be/is the best player in this draft imo. He might not be the best fit for the current roster but if we are lucky enough to be in position to draft him you have to. I think if that happens it would be extremely hard not to expect a Dame trade given his age, contract, and position. Dame is my favorite Blazer all time so I’m not saying trade Dame but if you can have an early 20s combo of Ivey/Ant and all that comes in a Dame package you most likely have to do it.

Agreed. Pels pick perhaps; but probably passing the previously packaged pick.

I don't like Collins, but I really like Murray. He looks like an NBA three to me, although you could pair him in the frontcourt with Nas. He's my pick as of right now because he can do just about everything. Seems likely he'll rise in the draft, though.

Has anyone compared Chet Holmgren to Andrei Kirilenko? I guess the temptation is Shawn Bradley/Kevin McHale (and if you're feeling unkind, Manute Bol), but his guard skills separate him from those guys. I imagine people are pretty terrified to draft someone that looks like he could snap like a twig, but Kirilenko did all right...

Assuming Smith, Holmgren, Ivey, Banchero, and Sharpe are all pretty consensus top ...7(?) picks, a few of Davis, Duren, Murray, Mathurin, Griffin, Brown and Eason will be available with whatever pick we have (if we have one). Possibly even more options if Jovic and Washington go top-10 as expected. There are only so many players who can rise up the draft boards, and if they do, others have to fall. I'm becoming more and more confident that if the Blazers get a pick or two, a very good, immediately useful player will be available.

im looking at Davis comfortably able to go right or left, with a really nice first step and deceleration allowing him to get immediately into any midrange shot he wants.

And also the sweet lefty finishes around the rim are reminiscent of BRoy.

i think he's gonna be an efficient 20ppg scorer in the league at the very least. just the increased spacing, illegal defense/handchecking rules will help.

His stock has skyrocketed from a projected second rounder to the mid-first. This year’s Herb Jones.

I don't get the Griffin hype. His shooting stance sorta reminds people of Jimmy Butler, but I just don't see anything else that warrants that comp. Most of his appeal comes from people projecting his per minute stats but I don't think his production will scale with PT/opportunity. And he's had substantial knee injuries while in HS.

    nah

Isn't this what always happens with every draft? People start the year by saying "it's a weak/top-heavy draft" then as the college season goes on a players have good seasons, everybody gets excited and thinks everybody's good...

28mpg in conference play and his numbers have held up. The age, size and shooting versatility combo is very appealing, but they're definitely some considerable athleticism and defensive concerns with him.

And the injuries are tough to get past. He doesn't seem to be nearly the same vertical athlete he was in HS.

Still in the same tier as Davis and Duren for me though.

Yeah Griffin doesn’t have the height I’d want in my PF either, so he can’t be considered a PF. And I don’t think I’d take a SF in the first 10. I’d be interested if he dropped into the late lotto-mid 1st, but Eason is a better fit for the team. Nassir is also an injury prone wing that is very Butler-esque.

Injuries just add more to the “ehh” points. Pass as well.

What y’all think of Wendell Moore JR? I think he’s gonna be one of the better players to come out of this draft. His defense has always been good. This year his 3 point shooting has improved tremendously. He’s averaging 4.6 assist and 5.6 rebound. At 6 foot 6 with a reported 7 foot wingspan with solid athletic ability he got all the making of a solid two way Swiss Army knife dude. I am thinking he can be what Winslow was always meant to be with a jump shot

Givony has us taking Keegan Murray and TyTy Washington in the first and Yannick Nzosa and Matthew Mayer in the second in his latest mock.

Duren is projected to go sixth. Maybe we can move up a couple spots to take him, assuming he doesn’t fall. We don’t need four rookies anyway. I’m also not convinced we’re gonna just trade one of the picks for Grant, especially if Billups keeps developing his young talent the way he has so far.
