Keeping our pick? This might be a Lottery year

Discussion in 'Portland Trail Blazers' started by TBpup, Dec 5, 2021.

?

Make the pick for the Future.....or trade it for 'now'?

  1. One last attempt

  2. Build for the future....one player won't make enough of a difference

  3. Get bad enough to where the pick makes an immediate impact

Haven’t scouted or watched much this year; but Ochai Agbaji or bust

Will end up being the best player in this draft. Book it

    He’s got the name FAMS

You know when you create an OP player in 2K or Live and they have that OP player name

Dude seems to do it all; and has lethal range too

    Ochai Agbaji or bust

Really might end up being a blessing tanking for this draft.

We’ve definitely seen much weaker drafts

Shawn Kemp? He attended junior college but didn't play. But, he was only the 17th pick, which reflects the uncertainty.

If we don't get up into the top 3 (or in my opinion the top 2 for Jabari or Paolo but I don't know how our GM's draft board or anyone else's looks) we have to get the best player possible who is already established in the league with those picks. I mean Murray and Duren would be great for the future of the team but if we're going all in on Dame as the current interim GM has said we are then we don't keep those picks. That's unless we think miraculously at those spots we're going to get two win now guys that push this team into contention.

I agree and thats probably a safer play for Cronin keeping his job. If they plan on going young and moving Dame then a new GM could be a possibility if the mother ship thinks Cronin isn't the guy. Then I would expect a hire before draft takes place.

That's the way I could see us losing Dame, if the Vulcans are just open to whatever GM is the best at selling them on the GM candidates vision for this roster then anything is possible. If the Vulcans want a GM to come in with an idea of how to best win a championship with Dame in the most cost effective way, then I don't see us keeping the picks unless the top one nets a guy the new GM sees as putting us over the top next season, whoever that prospect might be. The Vulcans could already be so detached that they're already going to give Joe the job... in which case we know he's said he wants to build around Dame but who the fuck knows with this guy maybe another GM offers him some magic beans for Dame and he goes for it.

I look at Keegan Murray kind of like would you be fine drafting a player roughly equivalent to the level of one of the Morris twins in the top 10.

I think Murray will be a decent rotation player on a decent team. I think he'll contribute fairly early in his career and I think he'll be consistent but I have this feeling that he's close to his ceiling and he'll never be much above average at his position.

I don't think the Seahawks are an indicator of the way we'll go but if they are the team will hold on to Cronin for cheap. They'll make Cronin trade Dame for young talent and less returning salary. They'll draft with both picks and build around Ant, whoever it is we get for Dame, Nas and the picks. They'll let Nurk walk. Total youth rebuild with no idea who will pop but a really good chance of not starting that youth rebuild at the bottom of the league but more towards the middle like we have been and hopefully growing into a contender from there.

Again I don't see the Seahawks as an indicator of what will happen here so I doubt this is the way things will play out but this certainly has to be a possibility.

As time went on, though, that stigma of uncertainty dissipated. High school players started to get drafted higher. Top college guys only were there a year. There was a pretty good book on the top HS guys playing against the top freshman college prospects in all the tournaments and high-profile games that were scheduled. Pre-draft workouts became more scientific. You knew more about these guys.

Kobe was the 13th overall pic right out of high school. If Kobe Bryant's time-displaced twin was coming into the NBA today and had no college experience, he'd absolutely be picked top five. I have no doubt of that.

The advantage of them keeping Joe regardless is he's a Vulcan through and through. Maybe even a yes man?
Personally, Id go after Shane Battier, Grant Hill or Brent Barry. My reasoning is they probably have good instincts regarding player assessment. But, the main reason is that they would realize what Chauncey and Dame want to accomplish and be a voice to the mothership not a voice from the mothership. Just a wild ass thought...

Brutal game for Davis. On the other hand, Duren had the highest game score of any player yesterday...and Murray was 3rd.

I do like Murray. Seems to be very versatile on both ends of the floor.
Just hard to know how young players will do at the NBA level?
