I haven't read into this at all, but judging from some of the comments here, I'm getting Jussie Smollett vibes.
Pro athletes have contract clauses prohibiting them from participating in activities such as skydiving or extreme sports. He was probably messing around on his bike and had an accident. I can see him panicking and making up the story about the car. Hopefully, he didn't sign a police report and only gave statements.
