I still believe a confident Martell can be just as offensively good as Durant. The thing is, we don't need the shots to go around really. I'll take Martell + injured Oden > Durant anyday.
Maybe but we will have to wait and see. IMO you have to take a chance that the player like Oden is going to be healthy. It seemd like KP did his homework on Oden's health but it hasn't work out that way yet. Durant wouldn't mean anything to us and Okc isn't going to be any good for a long time until they get a real good big man.
And we shoulda dropped a nuke on Russia to make them give us Sabonis in his prime so Drexler, Porter, Kersey, Sabonis, & Buck could have dominated from '89-'95. Nobody could have predicted what has happened to Oden.
There are article that the Blazers should have had concerns about Oden's health. Why is everyone so opposed to the idea of wondering if the Blazers made a mistake. It's not saying fire KP or fuck the Blazer organization . . . it is wondering if the Blazers made the right choice . . . aren't fans allowed to question that?
Is that a graveyard over there, and is that desperate whistling I hear? Yes, hindsight is always 20/20....but when you have the #1 pick in the draft, you should exercise due diligence. You don't draft a gimp, regardless of his hypothetical upside. You can badmouth Durant (or Horford) all you like - but at this point neither of their respective teams would trade them for Greg Penknife (ie wimpier than a Bowie). KP screwed up. Get over it and move on. You can't let the team, or the fanbase, be held hostage by one guy. Just hope KP has a "plan B"!
Plus it doesn't do any good to whine about it now. We made our choice and that's what we have to live with. There are mistakes made in every draft. I'm not saying Oden is a mistake. I hate all these Oden injuries as much as the next guy but what are we going to do just wishing and a hoping isn't going to do any good. Get over Durant he isn't the answer.
This injury sucks, and I will freak if it's a bad one, but his injury history is overrated. From what I know, he tore a ligament in his finger towards the end of HS, resulting in surgery and impeded production at OSU. He got his tonsels out after becoming a Blazer.....not basketball-related and can happen to anyone. The microfracture happened, which was obviously the big one. Since then, he sprained his ancle, which happens to anyone. Now he sprained his foot (hopefully). I am not yet under the impression that his career will be full of injuries. But if he gets another big knee injury......
Is this satire? I'm not being snide, I honestly can't tell. Obviously, another injury to Oden is worrying, but writing him off as a bust already is a bit insane. I'm not saying that Oden will certainly fulfill expectations, but it seems reactive in the extreme to have already decided Oden's NBA career is finished (at least as a possible impact player).
For those who visited Durant in Seattle, I invite you to revisit him...in Oklahoma City. As for me, I'm sticking with GO.
Satire, with an unpleasant core of truth. On "that other board" I got flamed for saying that the Blazers would go as far this season as Roy and LMA could carry them. Some fans just can't face the reality that Penknife may not be a super-duper-star from day one....or maybe ever. The part about not letting one player hold the team hostage was meant seriously.
For my fantasy team? Durant. For my Blazers? Oden. I still have no doubts that Pritchard made the right move when he selected Greg over Kevin. Ed O.
Huh? Based on what? They're building the team around him. The city will give great support and presumably the ownership will be willing to pay him the max. He's not from Texas, but he was willing to go there for college and so he must not find that part of the country too unpalatable. While there is a chance he will leave, I would put it markedly under 50% in the next five years. Ed O.
