Does any team (like New Orleans) have actual cap room? If some team offered him, say, 10 M, he might be prepared to give Cleveland back 9M...
Love has always sucked on defense....the question I have is what he still CAN bring to the table, given age and injuries. I imagine he can still pass, but can he still score and rebound?
Can still pass well. Still a solid shooter from 3. His ORB% has gone to shit, as he has strayed further outside, but still an elite defensive rebounder.
but it might suggest he's "bling" chasing....I don't blame him for wanting to collect his last big paychecks....his option is to be a cheap bench player with no starting job
Now I know he would be walking away from a ton of money -- money most of us would KILL for but the fact he seems unwilling to walk away from the money tells me that money is more important then a Ring , winning and so forth and for this reason I am against Love on the Blazers even IF he get's bought out.
Just sign Ed Davis...there are zero question marks about him and he's a seamless fit with Dame and Nurk already
I think the Blazers are waiting to see what happens on the teams with too many guaranteed contracts. I love Ed, but he's not the answer. There is a chance to add somebody that could help the mission. Patience.
Your 3rd string center isn't going to move any needle...he's an insurance, foul trouble piece...and Big Ed won't complain about being that guy...KLove, Lamarcus and Boogie probably would and demand Greg Brown's 8 minutes on the court....we're not looking for a rotation player for the money we've got to spend...we're trying to replace Harry Giles...I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Giles back either..I'd rather Ed was teaching Brown than Harry though
According to what I can see, just OKC is sitting with cap space right now at 20M. Everyone else looks like they're either over the cap or in the case of the Spurs only a couple 100k under.
Brown is a couple years off from being really ready. He's so raw. I'd rather add a talent who can actually add some help to THIS YEAR'S team. I'm not worried about 3 years from now. Like Elvis sang, It's Now or Never
Ed Davis was the highest rated defensive bench player when he was in Portland ..he's a rebounding screen setting backup who doesn't need to shoot....that help's this years team...and like I said...you're not getting better talent at the 14th roster position and if you do they won't be happy as a third string player
I wouldn’t give up money if I was Love. Would any of you? He already has a ring. What’s the motivation?
I totally agree. At the very most they're offering the guy 50M of the 60M they owe him. That would be leaving 10M on the table for no good reason. Love won't make 10M more on min contracts for the rest of his career, dude is washed at 32 he's not playing at 37. Some of these buyouts where players leave millions of dollars on the table that they'll never get back make absolutely no sense.
Well, to add to this, he has a ring. Blake Griffin didn't have a ring. That was the primary difference between those two guys. Same with LMA.
