Here, change the imaginary Kawhi deal to just be CJ/1st for Kawhi/Danny Green, and start him at SG. Better?
Okay, I've got it... Denver gets a future 2nd round pick from us Cleveland gets Turner, Leonard, Swanigan, Layman, and a 2019 lottery protected 1st (Denver) Portland gets Love, JR Smith, and Wilson Chandler (TPE) Starters: Dame, CJ, Hark, Love, Nurk Bench: Baldwin, JR, Chandler, Aminu, Collins Deep Bench: Simons, Trent, Stauskas, PapaG Still have the tax-MLE to sign a 15th roster spot.
You think they'd rather swap Pau for Meyers?? In all reality, in the hypothetical where they're trading for CJ, why wouldn't they want to send Danny Green back in exchange?
Why does Cleveland do that? Take our 4 worst players so they can get a 1st rnder from Denver? Portland gets out of it without trading a 1st? Not realistic
1) They get rid of JR Smith 2) They shave a decent chunk off their salary this year 3) Draft picks are gold for a complete rebuild situation like Cleveland is in (especially when they owe their own to Atlanta if it isn't top-10 this year) 4) Swanigan and Layman are cheap and could still develop. Turner and Leonard help them tank. 5) They get rid of JR Smith
Well played. I was thinking more along the lines of all the drama surrounding Damon's 4th quarter playing time, his mental fortitude, his inability to live up to his contract, etc. Being the local kid didn't work to his advantage. Sure, on paper he's a good fit, but he hasn't really been that player since Minnesota. I do think he'll do better without GM LeBron hovering over him, but right now I wouldn't bank on him being any more more than a vastly overpaid role player. I think/hope Collins will be better than Love in a year or two. Coming out of college, I said Love would be the perfect 3rd big behind Oden and Aldridge, able to compliment either with his inside/out game, mirroring what you said. Unfortunately, his stock rose too rapidly for us to have a chance of nabbing him. Boy how the luster wore off all three of those dudes.
If we took Korver, JR, or Clarkson off Cleveland’s hands with our TPE we could probably get a good deal on Love.
You'd think Olshey would be all over a deal bringing both Love and Korver to Portland. Long as he doesn't have to give up Collins or Leonard, of course.
Last year he had a PER of 22.4, (better than anyone of the Blazers regular rotation players other than Dame), TS of .614 (Better than any Portland regular rotation players), TRB of 18.6 (only Ed had a better TRB% of Portland's regular rotation players), WS/48 of 0.185 (only Dame had a higher one from Portland's regular rotation players). Let's be clear here, he is far from the best PF in the league, but he is not a role player, and if we only get the same one that was in Cleveland last year, he is basically the Blazers 2nd or 3rd best overall player by production, plain and simple. I would argue that playing in Terry's system - he will likely be just as good he was in Cleveland if not better.
If we are really gonna try to compete during this GS era then trading for Love(even for Collins) makes sense, I think it’s a mistake though. We should be retooling and be ready to roll in 3 season during the GS decline.
Portland will be going for the arena white-out all season long. No more red or black t shirts. Alllll white
