State Department says reports about ‘final conclusion’ on Khashoggi ‘are inaccurate’

By Elizabeth Zwirz | Fox News

Claim denied that Saudi crown prince ordered killing
U.S. Intelligence reports that Saudi crown prince ordered killing of columnist Jamal Khashoggi, Saudi government denies claims; Kitty Logan reports from London.

The State Department on Saturday insisted that despite recent reports, the U.S. had not yet reached a determination regarding the death of writer and activist Jamal Khashoggi, and that there remain “numerous unanswered questions.”

The department’s statement came a day after The Wall Street Journal said the CIA had determined that Khashoggi’s death came at the directive of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). That story was first reported on by The Washington Post.

The Saudi government has denied the claim, according to The Associated Press.

“The United States government is determined to hold all those responsible for the killing of Jamal Khashoggi accountable. Recent reports indicating that the U.S. government has made a final conclusion are inaccurate,” State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in the Saturday statement. “There remain numerous unanswered questions with respect to the murder of Mr. Khashoggi. The State Department will continue to seek all relevant facts.”

Separately, a U.S. government official told Fox News that no final assessment or conclusion has been reached, nor has a “smoking gun” been found. Policymakers have been briefed on current intel, the official said.
The Washington Post reports that the CIA has reportedly concluded that the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi was ordered by the Saudi crown prince.

The CIA’s reported conclusion came as a result of “an understanding of how Saudi Arabia works,” a U.S. official with knowledge of the situation told The Journal. Khashoggi’s death “would not and could not have happened” if MBS was not connected, an official told the outlet.

The CIA did not offer a comment on the story when contacted by Fox News on Friday.

Separately, a government official told Fox News on Friday that the Khashoggi assessment was not a public document and was not aware of plans to make it public. The official said the intelligence has been briefed at very senior levels.

Khashoggi was killed last month in the Saudi Consulate in Turkey. Saudi Arabia previously claimed that he was killed in a fight.

TREASURY SLAPS SANCTIONS ON SAUDI OFFICIALS OVER DEATH OF JAMAL KHASHOGGI

On Thursday, the Treasury Department announced it was sanctioning 17 Saudi government officials over Khashoggi’s death.

President Trump, while aboard Air Force One on Saturday, spoke on the phone with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and CIA Director Gina Haspel, according to White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.

The president flew to California on Saturday to visit with those affected by the massive and lethal wildfires there. The inferno burning in the northern part of the state has killed at least 71 people. But before he left he spoke to reporters about the Khashoggi story, telling them that when it came to the crown prince, “as of this moment we were told that he did not play a role. We're going to have to find out what they have to say."

Also on Thursday, Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir of Saudi Arabia insisted that the crown prince did not play a role in the Washington Post contributor's death.

Fox News’ Rich Edson, Catherine Herridge, Adam Shaw and Matt Richardson and The Associated Press contributed to this report

So the CIA is good if they are going after a democrat but fake news and false accusations from the corrupt CIA if they go after a republican.

This from Iran about Trump's "Official" statement today:

Mr. Trump bizarrely devotes the FIRST paragraph of his shameful statement on Saudi atrocities to accuse IRAN of every sort of malfeasance he can think of. Perhaps we’re also responsible for the California fires, because we didn’t help rake the forests— just like the Finns do?

He claimed that the President of Finland told him they rake the forest floor. The President of Finland claims he never said anything about any raking of the forest floor. Yet another Trump lie. No. 6,xxx.

    Deep State Globalist General Mattis:

Mattis: 'No Smoking Gun' That Saudi Crown Prince Was Involved in Khashoggi Murder

Defense Secretary James Mattis said there is "no smoking gun" proving that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman was involved in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Mattis, along with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, briefed senators Wednesday on the civil war in Yemen, during which they spoke about the importance of the United States-Saudi Arabia relationship and defended the Trump administration's response to Khashoggi's brutal murder.

Speaking to reporters after the briefing, Mattis said he has personally read all the intelligence reports and transcripts related to the killing, which took place October 2 at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

"We have no smoking gun that the crown prince was involved, not the intelligence community or anyone else," Mattis said.

The U.S. has imposed sanctions on 17 Saudis who were involved in Khashoggi’s murder, but a bipartisan group of senators -- including Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) -- favor harsher sanctions against the Saudi royal family, specifically the crown prince.

The CIA previously concluded bin Salman ordered the murder of Khashoggi.

Watch Mattis' remarks and the "Daily Briefing" interview above.

Why wasn't Gina Haspil asked to be there. Pompeo, Mattis and Bolton never even watched the video and ignoredd the CIA findings whho was in charge of investigating. Smells like a cover up.

They don't have anything other than Kashoggi's Apple watch with the walkie talkie feature that more than likely broadcast whatever happened to him. Then there's the intercepted phone calls from the Prince to the perps that the CIA has. There's also the fact that the perps never did anything without the Prince's knowledge. Yep, other than that, I imagine they don't have a thing.

Clinton Foundation quiet on Saudi donations despite Hillary's attacks on Trump over Khashoggi's death
By Lukas Mikelionis | Fox News

House Oversight Committee sets hearing for Clinton Foundation probe.

The Clinton Foundation has refused to say if it will follow the case of other non-profits and stop accepting money from Saudi Arabia, despite Hillary Clinton attacking President Trump over the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

The former Democratic candidate for president kicked off her speaking tour together with husband Bill on Tuesday, saying Trump is covering up Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and is reluctant to punish the kingdom due to his “personal commercial interests.

“We have a president who is part of the cover-up as to what happened in that consulate or embassy when Mr. Khashoggi was murdered,” Clinton said. “And we have a president and those closest to him who have their own personal commercial interests.”

But the Clinton Foundation, to which donations declined dramatically after Clinton’s 2016 defeat, has taken multi-million dollar contributions from Saudi Arabia in the past and isn’t ruling out continuing to accept them.

Fox News has sought comment several times in the past month, but neither Clinton Foundation spokesman Craig Minassian, Hillary Clinton's spokesman Nick Merrill or Angel Ureña, Bill Clinton's spokesman, responded.

PLUNGE IN CLINTON FOUNDATION DONATIONS FUELS GOP SCRUTINY AMID DOJ PROBE

It’s becoming increasingly difficult for non-profit groups to justify their partnership with the Saudi government following reports that the Saudi Crown Prince was aware of the Khashoggi murder plans.

Multiple prominent think tanks and other non-profits in Washington, D.C. announced the end of their relationship with the Saudis, promising not to accept any donations anymore. The Middle East Institute, a prominent think tank, announced last month that it will stop accepting donations from Saudi Arabia.

“We had a board meeting this week to decide on that and the board was unanimous that no, under the current circumstances, we don’t think it’s appropriate to take Saudi government money,” Richard Clarke, the group’s chairman who previously served as a counterterrorism adviser under President Bill Clinton, told Yahoo News.

Lobbying groups – including the Glover Park Group, the Harber Group and BGR Group — have also reportedly cut ties to Saudi Arabia over the killing of the writer.

The Clinton Foundation accepted between $10 and $25 million from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with donations coming as late as 2014. A now-defunct group named “Friends of Saudi Arabia,” which was reportedly co-founded by a Saudi Prince and often worked as a PR front for the kingdom, also donated between $1 and $5 million.

The foundation once in the past stopped accepting from foreign governments, including Saudi Arabia, but it was a temporary measure while Clinton was the Secretary of State. The ban ended in 2013 after Clinton left the Obama administration and began mulling her 2016 run.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump urged Clinton to return the money Saudi Arabia gave to the foundation. “I am calling on her to immediately return the $25 million plus she got from them for the Clinton Foundation!” he said in a statement.
