Yeah, that's bullsh*t. I dont' think he's worth the money he's making now. He's making more than vince and RJ and he's not even a scoring threat. I know he gets triple doubles but he can thank his teammates for that. F**k kidd....trade him for a big man and let marcus williams take his spot.

And last time I checked, Kidd isn't demanding a trade nor is he giving up. Some of you seem to be under that impression.

My thoughts....first of all, this is probably just the beginning of his agent's negotiating strategy....but from Kidd's point of view, he is worth this much if Marbury can get $20M (was that his Nets deal?) and if the Nets were willing to pay Mutombo $20M....and yes, he is one of the few NBA players that earn every penny he gets...but, from the business side, is he really going to get MJ money?....forget about signing any free agents for more than the minimum if he gets it.....and really, for the Nets to continue to rebuild and to have any hopes of keeping even two of the big three, the Nets need Kidd to accept a contract extension similar to the one VC signed...a contract that would allow the Nets to stay under the luxury tax the next couple of years, one that would for examplekick in next year and pay out around $45-55M over 4 years, not $45 for 2 years

Yer right he asked for an extension, it's a great way to make it seem like he really wanted to stay with NJ the whole time even though the asking price was rediculous. Kidd is trapped as Thorn has denied his previous trade requests and rebuffed offers to teams he'd love to play for and this is the last bit of leverage he has and is basically a final notice to the team that they have only a short period of time to either become a serious contender or deal him off because he'll be gone. No question there's alot of reading between the lines in Nets news on this board but it's no coincidence that we're hearing how great Kidd thinks other guys are when they're supposedly pushing for an extension. No agent in their right mind would believe Thorn would agree to that extension and denying it has now given Kidd the opportunity to choose where he wants to go or leave us with nothing.

Why should they pay a 35 year old man 24 million, that's ridiculous. Vince is about to be 31 and he's not making as muchashe used to.

PS. I don't think the nets will fall apart if they trade Kidd. As long as they get a really good big man they can be as good as the celtics, maybe better.

Um isnt Vince making more money per year now than he ever has?

PS: If they trade Kidd, they will enter rebuilding mode. no way a team gives up a perrenial big man for a point guard that has only a few years left in the tank.

I wish he would ask for 24 million more often. As soon as he made those comments to the media he started to win. Then when they started to wear off they started to lose again.

I mean, we're talking about an extension for the 09-10 season. By the time it comes around we'll be able to negotiate something proper. I don't think its a big deal, really. It's just news worthy, thats all.

I don't see why everyone is so mad about this. Thats the price Kidd feels its worth to put up with playing for NJ be they contenders or not. He may not get that from another team but the situation he could be going to would probably be worth the paycut in his mind. This is Kidd's way of trying to force Thorn's hand is all because he wants to play elsewhere with either one of his USA teammates, that's pretty clear with the passive agressive crap we keep seeing pop up in newspapers.

I agree. Kidd clearly wants out.

How does asking for an extension, and then being upset and frustrated about not getting that extension, mean he wants out? I thinkyouguysare reading way too far into this. Judging by the comments of the "source" in the Star Ledger, it sounds like Kidd truly believes he deserves this extension. Is it crazy and delusional to think that anyone deserves that type of money? Maybe. But that's not the point. The point is that I don't see how you could equate someone wanting an extension with someone wanting out.

In 2000 when Kidd was in Phoenix, he asked for a contract extension that would extend him in 2004. They gave it to him and he seemed pretty much thrilled about it. I think he just seriously likes signing extensions. He wants to stay here. Be glad. Rod's not stupid. I'm sure he will make Kidd an offer down the road. The money amount will probably depend upon who else Rod is looking to sign in the future, too. But I'm sure the Nets will get it done. If the Nets want to sign someone big, I doubt Kidd would mind signing for less than the maximum amount.

I really truly hope deep down he does want to stay in New Jersey. I want to see him retire as a Net. But he's got a track record of asking to be traded, looking to greener pastures, now he's openly calling out his team and while I can't blame him for doing any its not exactly screaming I want to stay in New Jersey. Asking for the extension at that price is a way to be compensated for all he's done here as much as it is for possibly giving up his chance to play with guys he's repeatedly gushed over in Kobe and LeBron leaving him to get his fix through USA hoops. Kidd has been nothing short of a pro on the court and that's why I want him to stay but he's no idiot and this is a calculated move, almost like an extended two weeks notice. He sees the team repeatedly having the same issues, a front office that backs the coach, and knows full well what kind of number crunch our roster is in where asking for such a sum that would kill any possibility of improvement even if the team decided to pay millions in luxury tax. I in no way doubt he would like a 24 million dollar extension to play here, or anywhere for that matter, but now he can go sign somewhere else guilt free as he's now been the one who was rejected by management.

Well, the NY Post todayis reporting Kidd only asked for $13 million, so there goes that theory.

The Nets offered $10 million. I think they'll get something done relatively soon.

    Welcome to S2, Kiddisanet!

Let's hope that all goes well. 10 mil sounds waaay better than 24 mil. Maybe then we could somehow get a big that can actually do something with that money saved.

OnWFAN they are saying that there are sources (take that for what it's worth) that Kidd didn't play tonight as a protest because of this whole situation.

I wish management would just give him the freaking extension. This is what you deal with when you have star players on your team. They want what they want and they are the only people who matter. You put up with all of these guys because they are brilliant basketball players.

So give him the damn extension already.

Hopefully you're not Stefanski's replacement! You can't run a real franchise as if it were 2k8 and hope to be successful.

in the words of GM I hope to God your not Stefanski's replacement because what you said is the reason we have spoil players and teams like the Knicks. This is a team. It's not about one player and the only name that matters is the one of the front. The Nets have to do what best for their franchise not just now but future wise. You do not invest in 24 million dollars in a player who will be 37.

Plus no diss or anything but this remark is just just mind blowing.

his is what you deal with when you have star players on your team. They want what they want and they are the only people who matter.

Wrong this is basketball you have role players you have blue collars players. The Spurs do not think like that and that's why Greg has four daily reminders on how good team basketball is.

Plus this organzation has already cater to Kidd enough. First trading KVH then signing Zo and firing Byron. Enough is enough. It's not like in the last three years we been in the Finals or conference finals so what are we missing? Another second round exit??
