You have to remember the All-Defensive team is actually voted on by the coaches (with no coach allowed to vote for his own player). I believe Kobe definately deserved this award... the coaches can see certain nuances in the game that even we can't see... they know when their star player is struggling against Kobe (but still maybe hitting amazing shots)... they know when Kobe's defensive stats suffer because of the switch ups they cause the Lakers to get their best player off of Kobe... they know have first hand knowledge of the sensational defensive plays each player makes on the court that just don't reflect in the stats or even on TV. If other coaches voted for him I wouldn't doubt whether or not he deserved it or not.
