well to me artest is a sg/sf(but since they have reggie starting at sg, he plays mainly sf). so i would still pick artest.
So you would kick off either Tim Duncan or KG for Artest? I know that's not what you're saying but that's what would happen if you want Artest on the team because they go according to the position listings given to them in which Artest is a forward.
seriously what's the difference between all nba 1st team and all defensive team? (in that there was no true pg in the all nba 1st team, if you are talking about positions). what i was saying is that i would consider artest a guard.
There is no point guard because they choose two guards and two forwards. It doesn't matter what type of guard/forward it is as long as its a guard or forward. The whole point is that you wouldn't be able to consider Artest a guard because these voters go by the position listings that the NBA gives them. So in an easier attempt to find someone you would take over Kobe in the GUARD position let's just exclude Artest from this.
Then tell me who should be on there. Only one person has given an example, which was Gary Payton, but this year Gary didn't exactly deserve to be on the first team either. He didn't really have as outstanding a defensive year as usual.
Artest. I dont care if hes a forward. Brad Miller isnt exactly a real center either but he made the all star team as one
^ same with vc not being an SF but he was, AD not a true center but was one in the asg, brad miller, and a few others. whys it like that?
becasuse there arent enough pure centers in the league anymore. kobe isnt even the best defensive shooting guard. AI, Kidd, Pierce, TMac all better defense but dont get selected for the team over kobe stricly becasue he has more hype. thats all
It doesn't matter if a player is a "real" center or not...what does matter is what position these guys play during the season and the position listings handed to the voters...
exactly and Artest has taken plenty of defensive asignments gaurding gaurds and he does it light years better than kobe
Artest guards all sorts of people from 1-4 (I've only seen Kobe go 1-3)...I hope no one gets me wrong and thinks that I think Kobe is a better defender than Artest, but the fact that Artest is listed as a SF means that he would've had to make it over KG and Timmy D, not Kobe.
it doesnt nessecarily mean that though. and besides kobe isnt even an elite defender for specifically guards either. face it. he doesnt deservve to be on the all defeensive team. at times he doesnt even play defense
I think this is a great topic, Kobe's selection to the First-Team on defense is definitely debatable, the question seems to be; who should be there instead? Artest was obviously considered a Forward by the voters so what I'm interested in is; who (other than Artest) should have held down the other guard spot next to Doug Christie? Remember this is Kobe's 2nd straight 1st team honor, but if you look at the 2nd team; is Jason Kidd or or Eric Snow any better? They certainly don't have his length or athletic ability, which can make up for fundamental weaknessess. Maybe there is a defenciency of on-the-ball defenders among NBA guards right now. *shrugs* Wow, I'm totally stumped now.
