To be fair, rocketeer is a pretty big Blazers fan, not just a Rockets fan, has been posting with this community for a long time and is just as knowledgeable about the Blazers as anyone else.
you're right. andre miller is a bad 3 point shooter. that's what i meant when i said he couldn't shoot. and? miller still is at his best playing at a higher tempo than the blazers play. i didn't say that it was important that miller hadn't won anywhere. just like his playoff experience(or lack of playoff experience), it's not a big issue to me. but it seemed like most arguments from people wanting a "veteran" wanted a guy who had won and had playoff experience. that isn't andre miller. and is it really shocking that denver gained wins when they added carmelo? the cavs added 10 wins his rookie year, then slowly lost games every season until he left. the clippers lost 12 more games his one season with them. philly doesn't sniff the playoffs without him? i guess we'll see. hedo was a bigger upgrade over outlaw. hedo had playmaking skills from the small forward position that would help make the pgs more effective and hedo has the spot up shooting ability to play well off the ball as well. the only decent thing about the miller signing is that he's only guaranteed two years, but 7 mil is definitely too much for him.
so you're suggesting that panicking would be a good thing? the rockets are fine. they won't be in the playoffs this season unless something incredible happens(yao or tmac comes back near 100% or one of the guys they have emerges as a star in a breakout year). but they are still in good position. the center position is fine. they brought in david anderson who has been one of the top centers in europe the last few seasons. i don't have huge expectations for him but it's a solid(and inexpensive) move. other than that they have scola, landry, hayes, dorsey, and cook to man the 4/5. obviously no stars but a solid cast of role players. that's what the rockets are this season. a team loaded with role players but no stars. they'll wait and see what happens with tmac and yao recovering from their injuries. the rockets are in a good position where they will have cap room and will be a great situation for any star player to step in. i'm very happy where the rockets are long term even though it sucks that this season is basically over before it starts. the blazers are in a good position as well. i don't think this move necessarily makes the blazers worse, it just doesn't make them any better. for all the negatives i see with miller, he does have some positives(i just don't think they outweigh the negatives). and just not making any moves, i think the blazers were a good enough team to win 60 games this season. i just felt if they were going to make a move it should be bringing in a player that clearly fits and makes the team better. i don't think that is the case with andre miller and i think holding onto the cap room(to explore trade opportunities) and going with blake/bayless at pg would have been a much better decision.
Wait! I thought the mob mentality and the, 'I sure hope I'm popular on this board, because I've been a loser for the previous fifteen years of my life' mentality, so I'll never have my own opinion or disagree with KP, EVER...simply because if you do disagree with him, you're seen as Mixum (or whatever his name is) ruled here... It's nice to see a poster actually negative about KP, but praising him on some level - even if I disagree. You're one of my favorite posters here, simply because you are objectional, but, I do disagree with you - I don't think Miller's signing is a good thing for us. But, I've been wrong before, and hope to be wrong this time... The best part is knowing I disagree with you doesn't = some false name and simple name calling ---- AND, I am actually open to being wrong. Man, I hope Miller is the player that takes us over the hump and brings Roy and LA's game to a dominate level in the playoffs....
I just try and speak the truth. A lot of fans refuse to look at the truth though and speak positive even if it makes no sense. I couldn't stand being that fake. I think you will like Miller though because I see him opening up a lot for Oden and LMA down low for tons of more easy baskets, and god knows we need them. We should cut our jump shot attempts in half and life would be a lot easier on the blazers.
So you think we win 60 without Miller, how man do you think we win with him. So you think the Miller signing is so bad that it will cost us games, or do you now raise your win total?
no doubt, poor poor Johnny come lately martyrs in their own minds I praise the current management because I've consistently sided with the moves they've made. I've rooted for the Blazers dating back to the 70's, and there certainly have been periods this wasn't true. Chatting in this very same community of on-line Blazer fans I hated the Sheed for SAR and Theo trade and cringed at the subsequent Zach/Darius/Theo signings. I was a huge proponent of drafting Chris Paul in 2005, had LA and Roy rated 1 & 2 in 2006, openly pined for years for Greg and was very open to dealing Zach in 2007... I had Batum as my 2nd choice at #13 in 2008 (to Anthony Randolph), and this year thought they should go with a guy they could stash overseas as the draft talent sucked and the roster was mostly set. I also discussed adding Andre Miller ad nausea starting this past spring as I thought he was the best realistic target in the FA class. I stated these opinions before management did them, yet somehow I'm part of a mob of fakes because I'm not being critical of them now? STOMP
just above the part you bolded i said "i don't think this move necessarily makes the blazers worse, it just doesn't make them any better." at this point my prediction for how many games the blazers will win would remain basically the same.
