Or a book club. Maybe Lord of the Flies as the first book?

    1) That is flat-out incorrect. You can't simply renounce someone under contract.

    2) I sure am glad you are a poster and not our GM.

Outlaw and Blake had partially guaranteed deals that could have been renounced before July 1.

You should check facts before you post something like this. Both Blake and Outlaw could have been let go before July 1, which would have freed up 8 more million dollars or so.

1.) So yeah, you sort of can renounce players if their contract is structured in a way that allows it.

2.) I am glad I am not Portland's GM either. It sure seems like a completely thankless job.

Further, I specified in my post that I didn't not advocate such a thing. Only that saying Portland offered as much money as they possibly could was false.

Listen folks. This should have been very simple. There should have been one announcement. Brandon Roy signing a max deal contract extension. There was nothing else that should have ever been feasible to come out of this. There should be no agents leaking to the press because of problems. There should have just been a press conference with the announcement of a max deal. How hard is that? It's a no brainer.

It wasn't false. You're saying that previous moves could have created more space, but that's always true. Based on their salary structure at the time free agency began, they offered the most possible.

This is a worthwhile distinction because you're conflating two different things: Pritchard's choice to retain Blake and Outlaw and his "ability to negotiate" with free agents. If you don't like his choice to retain Outlaw, fine. But that has nothing to do with whether he knows how to "deal with free agents." He offered as much as he could (which takes into account all past moves) which was already an overpay, rolled out the red carpet and Turk still chose to go elsewhere. This doesn't, in any way, suggest to me that Pritchard failed in some meaningful way when it came to trying to sign Turkoglu. It suggests that free agency is unpredictable because you can't control the choices of the free agents themselves.

Maybe Roy's agent is miffed by the Blazer's timeline?

Pritchard calls up Roy 1st as the FA period begins and they probably talk about an extension, and then this whole fiasco erupts with Hedo and POR going to Plan B, and I could see Roy's agent wanting to get a deal done for himself...err his client and maybe telling Quick that "talks have stalled" with Pritchard....

and the whole 4 vs 5 years makes absolutely ZERO sense from POR persepctive, I just think Quick got confused there...

Unlikely. Unless Pritchard is brainless, he's already assured Roy, Aldridge and their agents that they're getting their extensions for certain, this summer. Since I don't think Pritchard is brainless, my assumption is that getting the extensions officially signed is simply not an immediate priority to either Pritchard (who's busy trying to improve the team at the moment) or Roy/Aldridge, because it's already assured to happen. Why would either side care if it happened yesterday or in a month, as long as both sides know that it is guaranteed?

This isn't how you treat a franchise player. The guy is only 25!

If I were Roy, or in Roy's position, I'd sign for the least years and bail. Go to a team who appreciates what I bring.

4 years, are you fucking kidding me?

This is much ado about nothing.

The team will get something done with Roy. They might wait to extend Aldridge, based on the abundance of power forwards in the league driving down his contract size, but they'll eventually pay him to stay, too... or have a backup plan in place.

    I'm not at all worried.

updates from Blazersedge Ben on Twitter:

Breaking... KP: "Brandon and LaMarcus will be here a long time." Negotiations with broy and la are "amicable". "Disappointed" about Hedo.5 minutes ago from UberTwitter

KP: "We could do a lot of things but we love" our guys. Team is looking at Millsap, seen potentially as "best player available"

I think everyone needs to chill out. And stop hating on Twitter.

KP acknowledges potential longer-term financial benefit of 4 year deal for Brandon. KP "will not rule out" either 4 or 5 year deal.
