Clearly he doesn't. Haven't you heard? He's trying to run Roy and Aldridge out of town.

If I hear down the road that we didn't upgrade to Hinrich because KP or Nate wanted to hold on to Outlaw I will not be a happy camper.

Hmm, why wouldn't we want to sign Roy to 5 years? I'm confused.

That makes FAR more sense of course.

P.S. this is exactly why I was reserving Judgement. I'm sure Quick is a decent guy but this is not the first article of his that seemed to :stirthepot:

NO WAY!!!!! That would mean that Quick is the idiot, and KP is just doing his job.

It would also mean a lot of people on this forum have embarrassed themselves.

Can someone explain why it would be more financially beneficial to Brandon to sign a 4 year vs a 5 year deal?

He's eligible for a larger starting salary as a seven year vet in the league, rather than a three year vet.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
With the cap dropping and the max salary tied to a percentage of the cap, a max deal right now is depressed in value. A four year extension allows him to sign a new contract sooner, but hopefully (for him) in a better economic climate and thus a higher cap and higher maximum salary.

Wheels just said that KP spoke to the media today, and said he'd have some audio on the whole contract situations and how KP thought it wasn't going the way he wanted it to. So maybe Quick wasn't wrong, but the story was a little exaggerating how bad it was.

i think because with a 4 year deal with a player option for the 4th year means that after 3 years, he could get a new max contract that could be worth more money due to the number of years he's been in the league.

I guess the only risk would be if Brandon got seriously injured, then he'd probably lose out on a max year's worth of money. But when you're as good as he is, you never try to prepare for anything like that.

Ah got it---thanks Minstrel. Didn't realize max salary was tied to a percentage of the cap. I thought an individuals max salary was scaled based on their previous salary.

It's the same thing that LeBron, Carmelo, and Wade (or their agents) all did for their extensions.

Did I say it had anything to do with dealing with free agents?

    Nope.

Did I say KP failed because of it?

Nope. You are reading this particular post in light of others I have posted. However, I have since tried to refrain from posting blindly negative things about this off season. This posting was not negative. It was just pointing out that Portland had a chance to have around 15 million under the cap instead of 7.5.

What I did say was it was possible for Portland to have had more money under the cap for free agents then they ended up with. Is this in any way false?

    http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q11

number 11 talks about max salaries. the max for 6 or fewer years in the league is only 25% of the cap while the max for 7 years in the league is 30% of the cap. given himself the opportunity to opt out when he's eligible for a higher max makes him more money.

This tweet from blazersedge sounds good.

Sidenote - I've always been amazed at the level of bi-polar impulsiveness that several posters display, but I've got to say reading this thread brings it to a whole new level. KP has done a great job in Portland, and to act like this over something so insignificant, to even think that Pritchard doesn't want to sign Roy longterm, is unbelievable to me. How can you people honestly believe that Pritchard is that stupid? It would be like a nascar driver forgetting to turn left.

As an example of the level of journalism we're constantly subjected to, here's the latest twitter.

It's probably best to just not believe anything you read, it will save you years of your life by not freaking out so much.
