The only good reasoning in trading LaMarcus is you hope to be Charlotte Bobcats bad and get a top 3 pick in the 2014 draft. Acting like any package the Blazers would receive for Aldridge would be the future is ridiculous, especially if it's the #1 and Thompson.

OKay so no one responded to my question. How in the hell does Cleveland trade draft picks for Aldridge; when they don't have the cap space to absorb 16 mil?

Trading your best player for multiple lesser players in the name of "depth" is not a good strategy.

In the NBA, the team with the best 2 out of 3 players on the court will typically win. LMA is usually one of the top 1 or 2 players on the court. Trading him for two other PFs who's stats add up to LMA's is not actually a good strategy for success.

I believe it would be a "wink" trade. It would be announced but not until after the new salary cap #'s come out (july 1st?)

So we would know about it on draft day; but executed on July 1st?

probably. That's what happened in the Bayless deal, where we all knew we had him, but KP couldn't talk about him, I think.

I just don't know how I would handle any deal involving Aldridge. I still believe he will be that one player we greatly miss once gone. Probably hide under a rock and morn for a while.

So the plan would go down like this? Aldridge for picks #1 (Ben McLemore or Victor Oladipo) and 19 with Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson? Then the Blazers sign Al Jefferson out of free agency?

Nobody is saying Varejao would come back to us. It would just be Aldridge for Thompson, Oladipo, and 19 (Dieng?); and then yes, sign Jefferson.

Or Josh Smith or David West. I've been throwing Al Jefferson name around since I think he's the easiest to slot into the offense.

I actually like the idea of signing Jefferson (if we traded LMA), because he's really a natural PF, but he's been playing C for the past several years, so we could have him play C and start Thompson at PF while Dieng/Leonard develop, and then allow Jeff to move to PF once we have a natural C that is ready to start.

I like Jefferson as well. Not sure how much he would get on the open market though.

I would rather have David west than Jefferson because west actually plays defense.

You mean you hate him (he's not as good as Aldridge)

He's not as good as Aldridge.

    Jefferson + Oladipo + Waiters/Thompson + #19 is better than Aldridge.

Jefferson (for 3-4 years) + Oladipo (for 9 years) + Waiters/Thompson (for 7-8 years) + #19 (for 9 years) is better than Aldridge for the next 22 months as currently situated.

You'll want to trade those guys once you realize they won't make the Blazers a contender
