I really don't want to work at a "job" after this current job I've been in is over. It just seems like a dead end overall to be working for someone. Rather be freelance or start something.

I suspect that could change as more and more boomers retire. There are more and more professions that are having a difficult time finding qualified applicants as those boomers move on. So those that are qualified will be able to command better wages. My former workplace is having a terrible time (for a variety of reasons) filling vacancies. As a result, they recently started increasing wages in every department that has the need. All of sudden, a better quality of applicant is coming out of the woodwork. It's also been pointed out on this thread that kids come out of college with English Lit, Philosophy, Sociology, etc, etc, useless degrees. And they're disappointed they can't find a decent job. Obviously the ability to obtain a college education does not guarantee that it comes with common sense. With rising tuition costs, I just don't get why more people don't go the community college route. It's cheaper and a two year degree can and will get a motivated individual a decent paying job (or at least better than that 4 year English Lit or Philosophy degree). Community colleges are probably the best tax dollar bargain in the state (alongside libraries). And the jobs will be there. So will the wages.

Even if you have a useful degree, it really isn't going to help you all that much.

Good thought! The sooner you quit thinking like an employee, the more progress you will make.

Classes like this are not doing them any good either

It is difficult to see how this will help you improve your look to the employer that wants to hire an employee that will help make a profit.
I can see how it would have the opposite effect.

Wow! The recession ended over 5 years ago. The continuous slide down hill for labor participation must be the result of successful policies Obama set in place, to fundamentally change America.
I probably will need to change my view of him, he may be the most successful President since Lincoln.

Maybe I'm just old, but what is it with all these kids on my lawn? I mean gee whiz. I blame Obama's failed middle east policies.

Could that have anything to do with the apparent lack of ambition? Working really hard without a promise of stability just sounds like working really hard for the sake of working really hard. Might then one ask what for.

Would it irritate you so much if you believed in determinism?

No, but only an idiot believes that each individual has no ability to change their lot in life.

People need to change the word philosopher to druggie when defining things.

There are too many notable scientists and philosophers that would be offended to hear such an idea sprouts exclusively from drug use. Besides, determinism doesn't deny that people make decisions and are able to commit to change. It merely explains why they are able to change or are constrained to not change. To throw out the causal chain because it sounds idiotic shows a certain lack of observation combined with a special kind of faith that allows for this dissonant cognitive construct of which there is no grounded support.

Lol, need any help in your IT Department? :-) specifically VDI/Citrix? Sounds like a place right up my alley, haha.

That is true. I've had to do that twice now. Once after 11 years, and once after 2.
