I completely disagree with you. Fans don't need a say. PLAYERS should get to vote for the All Star team. Then there will be FAR less bias. Hell, keep the coaches out too.

Really? You don't think fans would have voted Curry MVP and Kerr COY?

I'm seeing one debatable choice on each team. Kobe on the West, Carmelo on the East. While I don't like Kobe I see nothing wrong with fans wanting to see him play one last time. Carmelo? Meh. But looking at the starters I would say fans got it 80% right. I doubt the teams would be much different if coaches or GMs picked the starters. Doesn't seem like it's in the shitter to me.

The thing is, if fans DO vote in Yi to the All-Star game as a bench scrub then they DO deserve to get their vote taken away. Simple as that. I am not commenting about past choices (although there are certainly some I can quibble with).

Why? We buy the tickets and jerseys. We watch the games. We can't have one game where we get to select who plays? We don't get a say in where and how the games are broadcast. We don't get a say in what fucking ads they're going to put on the jerseys.

It's one game. I'm just not seeing the outrage in letting fans have this tiny say.

If Yi were voted in he'd be a starter.

I'm not 100% sure. There are some dumb fans, I may be one of them too cause I wouldn't have voted Kerr, Stotts and Stevens were more worthy.
Well, the players that get snubbed that have all-star bonuses in their contracts probably have some legit beef with fans.

I disagree with you along with Wook and Dviss etc. I think there is a REASON the other sports don't allow fans to vote on stuff, because they are smarter than the NBA and know fans are jaded and biased.

Yes the Fans will get it right most of the time, but when All star appearances and starts are notches towards making the HOF, then it is a serious issue when a better player is left off the starting lineup simply because he is less popular.
Makes no sense any way I think about it and I think most other sports already got it down.

I don't disagree that its cool to provide the fans with something, but lets make it something that doesn't have an impact on the players' ability to get into the HOF.

How about the fans vote on WHERE the all star is held and it cant be the same place in any 5 year span?

Id be all down for that, rather than who starts.
There are many ways to reward the fans without impacting the players long term stature.

No, they should have a beef with their agents. Lillard got a big boost for making the all league team. Not making the AS team had no effect on his new contract.

Baseball and hockey allow the fans to vote.

Exactly. Only one game a year for the players to toss an all star start notch on their belt and legacy.

If the fans want a game where we declare who starts and plays, then the season should be 83 games, but not use the All star game as this. Create an 83rd game where the fans vote in all the players, bench and starters. When its played, I don't know because you don't want to impact the playoffs, but there are other options to provide the fans with input and to be a part of a selection process without slighting a player who should be an all star based on numbers for a player who is an all star based on popularity.

Have any examples of players who were left out of the HOF because they didn't make the ASG as a starter?

And Baseball is riddled with drug users, is no longer America's pastime and has lost significant popularity over the last decade plus. Not saying its because of this, but I'm saying they are really screwed up, and this is just another example. :)

I don't know much about hockey though.

I will say this. I would be fine with fans voting the all star game if the HOF panel completely removed it from their selection process.
I just think it leads to the potential of a player getting snubbed in cooperstown because a bunch of ass hat fans voted in a lesser caliber player year after year because of international popularity, or whatever it may be.
    Just doesn't feel right.

I don't know, but as long as there is the potential, it sucks.

Drazen and Sabonis made the HOF w/o being named an all star.

I still don't see why any of that gives us a say. Fan is short for fanatic and most of them are stupid and don't know the game anyway. I would much rather see the right people get voted in then the fans voting for people that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Fan voting should be limited to the skill challenge, 3pt shootout, and dunk contest.
