Marbirie, I agree watching any player shoot 20+ free throws is disgusting basketball. I don't want the Lakers to win the game at the free throw line, the officials in the NBA are a joke.

In contrast to the officiating in the NCAA, Big 10 Conference, the officials allow a lot more physical play and don't always feel obligated to blow the whistle. There's a lot of no calls, which I prefer.

Sure Kobe did deserve to go to the line, but 24 times is absurd, unless a player is getting intentionally fouled.

It's great the Lakers won this game, but the officiating was horrible in this one.</div>

I don't know about that, he deserved many of those calls for "nba" standards at least. I think you just want to talk like that about Kobe so you can keep pounding on Wade when he goes to the Line a bunch of times. [IMG]

<div class="quote_poster">Moo2K4 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Ya know, instead of complaining about the officiating, why don't you look at the box? The Jazz didn't lose because the Lakers got more calls, in fact, the Jazz were only whistled for two more fouls than the Lakers. The Jazz lost because they couldn't hit a shot. When you shoot 40% from the floor and miss only make 18/26 from the line, you're begging to lose the game. Blaming it on the refs is just the easy way out.</div>

I didn't blame the loss on the refs. Read my post again. I said the officiating was terrible, and I said watching Kobe shoot freethrows all game was boring and pathetic, like shapecity said. I would have rather seen the Jazz lose by one in a close, competetive, and SKILLFUL game.

The Jazz were without their leader Williams, shot terrible, made no freethrows, and Okur was having the worst game of the season. And somehow the Jazz almost won. They didn't really deserve it, but I can't say the Lakers really deserved it either.

Well I like to stay consistent with my criticism, and it's not the fault of the players they are going to the line so frequently. It's terrible officiating, often times the officials anticipate a foul and blow the whistle early, or they put teams in the penalty because of early ticky tack calls in a quarter.

The problem is the "NBA standards," I don't like the new interpretation of what constitutes a foul and what doesn't. The whole idea behind the changes was to allow more flow and freedom of movement by offensive players. But instead the flow is disrupted by players heading to the free throw line. It's ugly basketball and frustrating to watch.

Side note: Lakers are now 4-0 with Mo Evans starting.

Hey I know how you feel, but as long as other superstars get a bunch of calls (like Wade), I'll gladly take my 24 FTs on this occasion.

Awesome. Phil should've started him earlier, over both Radman and Cook. What he lacks in size, he makes up in sheer grit, defense (Radman), and unselfishness (Cook).

I want to see Kobe scoring 50+ without going to the line for more than 10 times in a game instead.

Why? that'll mean Kobe having to jack up 30 shots. Him going to the line with an 87% success rate > taking many jumpshots to acheive 50+ points.

Making him actually make his shots instead of just making freethrows is a lot better. Are you insane? He shouldnt jack up that many shots anyway, unless he can make the majority of them. And if he can, then so be it..... go ahead and average 35+ pts a game. It's better than 20 damn free throws a game.
