I'm going to laugh if Odom goes to Miami and Wade bolts next summer.

He's still got a home there Shape. I'm sure it is very comfortable for him in this extremely beautiful city even if Wade leaves. ;]

But I thought we were pretty much a lock to get him back? Schizophrenic reporting. :[

Palm Beach Post and/or Miami Herald said there wasn't much progress made with LO though. Ramona kind of agrees.

Funny that just after Portland becomes a non-option, Lamar's camp says he might consider Miami. Could be a nice ploy by them maybe?

I'll take Woj over any beat writer. Woj has been money this year. He has solid sources.

Then I just don't get Buss. Why would you offer worse than the MLE? Makes no sense.

I think Wojo could still get played, I thought Yahoo! said we were close and leaning/signing in LA before.

Re: The Goods Thread (Miami favorite/LA favorite/Miami no progress, Updates: Pg 12)

It's not really hard to decipher.

LO wants to return to LA, LA is his #1 choice, otherwise he would've signed with Miami by now.

LO wants financial security (which 5 yrs MLE gives him).

We know Lakers put out an offer, although details are iffy, supposedly it was 4/36 with team option the 4th year, which we most likely won't pick up. That was the hold up and the biggest issue.

LO doesn't accept, Buss pulls the offer.

Miami offers full MLE, 5 years. LO doesn't like it, holds out for hope LA improves offer.

Buss is pissed, LO calls Buss to calm things down. Widely reported that the deal Buss put on the table was the highest, that is gone, anything new will be lower.

LO waits this thing out. Decision supposed to be made this week.

LO has offer on table from Miami, which is his second option. First option is returning to LA, but Buss won't meet his expectations or even give him the first offer back. LO waits for about a week or so to see if Buss will change his mind. The week has passed, nothing. LO realizes the deal won't be back on the table, so he leans towards Miami, and unless something gets worked out, he will be a Heat next year.

That's basically what has happened. If Buss doesn't improve his offer, LO leaves.

I'm more so interested in what backup options we have. Drew Gooden is gone (not that I wanted him anyways, but he was supposedly a target). Joe Smith wants to stay east, which is well documented, and I see no reason why he leaves CLE. Other potential target I've heard is Sheldon Williams, you might as well give JP those minutes because Sheldon sucks. I'm wondering what we'll do next with the vet min at our disposal. My guess is Mitch is working the phones. We need more depth, period. LO leaving leaves us with zero bench, zero depth. If we want to match up with the East we better have something off the bench, because the Big 3 sure do. And don't tell me about how awesome our starting lineup is, because the Big 3 all have great starting lineups as well.

Why would Lamar care, he already won his ring. Signing with Miami for 5 years means 5 years he won't have pressure to win a championship, 5 years he can do whatever. That seems like a perfect situation for LO.

Emplay doesn't think much of him leaning anywhere. Nothing has been signed yet and they're not having negotiations just to waste time. I bet a deal is on the table, just not the perfect one he wants; maybe 27/3.

u guys are the lakers, dont sweat the small stuff. im sure mid season there will a team with a firesale clearing out their most expensive contracts and the lakers will indulge them as willing buyers (e.g. gasol from memphis)

We have expirings, which should be valuable during the deadline, but there's no guarantee for anything. Hopefully things will work itself out.

That's exactly why I'm not worried about the Odom situation. I also have a lot of faith in Drew staying healthy and finally breaking through.

Try for a sign and trade with Miami and in the meantime sign Shelden Williams and move on.

Re: The Goods Thread (Miami favorite/LA favorite/Miami no progress, Updates: Pg 12)

If he doesn't care then do you really want him back? I don't. I want players on the roster who are hungry to repeat as champions. The longer this negotiations goes with Odom the more I feel he played hard during a contract year hoping to get a large payday from someone in the league. None of the teams with cap space even made him an offer and now Odom is willing to take less money on a weaker team.

Kobe & Gasol are the two players who make this team tick. The Lakers were playing very well with Bynum as the 3rd option last season and Odom coming off the bench as an afterthought. I know the Lakers depth will take a hit, but I'd prefer to make some minor tweaks in the roster from now until the post season instead of overpaying a malcontent Odom.

Include the fact the Lakers have Artest now and a full season of Shannon Brown.

If the Lakers are capable of pulling a sign and trade even better, but I'm past being annoyed by Odom and his agent.

Re: The Goods Thread (Miami favorite/LA favorite/Miami no progress, Updates: Pg 12)

It doesn't matter if he cares or not, when has he ever cared? Lamar is Lamar. He's no different than what he was last year, the year before that, the year before that, or his rookie season. He is who he is.

My issue all along has never been Lamar. If we still had the MLE to use, I would've waved goodbye to LO weeks ago. I'm not comfortable at all with JP being our first big off the bench. Look at the east. The Cavs have Shaq/AV/Big Z and possibly Joe Smith. Boston has KG/Perkins/Sheed and Orlando has Dwight/Lewis/Bass/Gortat. Our front court depth, and depth in general is shit if LO leaves and if we don't find a suitable replacement. I doubt someone who signs with us for the vets min is going to make that big of a difference. I don't think someone like Shelden Williams is a big upgrade over JP at all. They're decent, as 3rd strings. But you look around the league and look at all the other contenders out there, every single one of them have depth and a good three way big man rotation, except for us (if LO leaves). There's no guarantee Shelden comes here either. If we offer him the vet min, he'll get a salary below 1 million, all it takes is one team to offer more than that and he's gone. The Lakers other supposed option, Drew Gooden, just signed with Dallas for 4.5 million, so vets min won't give us anything as far as I'm concerned.

The Lakers aren't above and beyond all the other contenders in the league, they weren't last year either. It took a couple of lucky bounces for us to prevent the Finals from going to Game 7, so it's not like we were absolutely dominating all competition. Teams around us have drastically improved this year, so if we end up losing LO, Mitch better be on the phones 24/7 to find a decent replacement.

As for Drew, I like him, but once again, he has proven nothing to me. Hopefully he finally stays healthy and steps up next year, because we'll definitely need him for more than a couple of weeks, with or without LO.

I still don't see him playing with passion and desire next year if he keeps this up. The contracts have been thrown at him, he isn't going to see a better offer than the 4/$36 and for all we know, that offer is gone.

I dont know... i really think odom will be very important for us especially with boston's addition of sheed...

gasol or bynum are not capable of guarding sheed in the perimieter... odom, on the other hand, would be capable to do so.

Gasol did a good job guarding Rashard, who is younger and much quicker than Sheed. I think defending Sheed wouldn't be a problem for Pau.

How hard is it to guard a spot up shooter? Sheed doesn't exactly take players off the dribble when he has the ball on the perimeter.
