Fan = short for fanatic. I rest my case. I expect you to get over that fact that fans are fanatic and will hold a grudge as long as they please.
I agree with you but I never really liked Aldridge that much anyway. They should have traded him though and I would have been fine not knowing until it happened.
What grudge is there to hold though? He informed management he wanted to be traded. Never went public, so we would have received full value for him.
You have never offered proof that that happened. I'M not saying it didn't, but does it matter? The grudge is he told us, the fans, he wanted to be the best Blazer ever. What do you not understand about that and how a fan could not like him anymore for that? Using your own words, get over it. Fans will hold the grudge as long as they like.. I guess you are free to be annoyed by that if you like, but then what makes that any better than the fan who is still holding the grudge... lets be consistent here shall. For the record, I am totally over it and moved on over a year ago, but I can totally understand the fan who never moves on and boos him for the rest of his NBA days, and I would not think any less of that fan. I would have been more pissed if I had bought his Jersey after saying he wanted to be the best Blazer ever though. I wonder how many bought his Jersey after that? Id ask for my money back. LOL
It is what it is. Other than 3 or 4 other people that heard the same, it's impossible to prove a conversation without recording it cause some internet geeks want proof.
Oh I blame Neil. But I still blame Aldridge for being half the player he could have been, as well as a poor teammate. This is really my biggest problem with Olshey. Aldridge had serious value. He should have been traded.
Is this the original phatguyrules from Olive? If so, long time no talk to as we had some good late nights there.
The understanding I had from most of the quotes/info provided by you and others at the time was that Aldridge wanted out IF a contender couldn't be built around him, which then was immediately done (acquired Rolo so he didn't have to play center, 54/51 wins, etc.). I don't blame Neil for not dealing an all-star from a conference top-4 team if he was told that said all-star would stay if the team was a winner, and Neil thought that was exactly what he had built. If the message to the FO was "build a contender and I'll stay", but he actually had no intention of staying regardless of the team's quality, then it's perfectly reasonable for fans to have felt (and even still feel) betrayed by Aldridge.
Not from me. LA wanted out because of marketing reasons. Dame was the golden child, and Aldridge felt slighted
Interesting, and an important distinction. Are we talking about after Dame's rookie season, or specifically after the 54-win, 2nd-round, "0.9 shot" season? It's possible I may be conflating comments after one with rumors after the other.
LA has felt slighted since he was drafted. After Roy left, he sorta became the man. Dame got here, and it was back to second fiddle
I definitely blame Olshey for not trading him. If you are a small market team and have a player that you can't afford to lose, who won't re-sign with you before he can leave, you trade him. Every time.
So you just ignore the fact that said team was likely going to be the 2nd seed in a wide open Western Conference?
