True fans whine incessantly about the team from halfway across the country, even after the team gets its first playoff series win in 14 years.

 

So the Blazers will give Love a max contract? Is that how this is supposed to work?

Why would Cleveland do this, anyway, unless LMA signs an extension, which he's be foolish to do in the first place. I mean, it would be hilarious to me if Cleveland traded away the #1 pick for a one-year LMA rental, but I don't think even Gilbert is that stupid.

PapaG I don't understand why you get so upset about this topic. Some people want him gone. Some people don't. Some people could go either way. Why get worked up about it?

Basketball is a team sport. One player, no matter how good, cannot carry a team to the playoffs without help. In today's NBA, you need multiple stars just to make the playoffs.

They are both valuable. I guarantee you this team would not have made the playoffs without LaMarcus Aldridge. He is an established 3-time all-star that opposing defenses game plan to stop.

I also guarantee we would not have beaten Houston in the 1st round without Aldridge. Hell, I'm confident we would have been swept without Aldridge. His impact wasn't just stealing the first two on the road in Houston. He so completely dominated Terrence Jones in those first two games, he forced Kevin McHale to change his starting line up and also use Dwight Howard on Aldridge at times. By forcing McHale to start Asik on Aldridge it hurt Houston on the offensive end and let the Blazer focus more on their three remaining scorers. Also, moving Howard onto Aldridge, freed up Robin Lopez for some easy baskets. It's not just Aldridge's scoring, it's the impact he has on his teammates and his opponents. When you force the opposition to totally change their game plan, that's an impact.

Replace Aldridge with one of those rookies and add Kevin Love and we lose to Houston - if we even make the playoffs. How many of those guys, including (especially) Love have led their teams on deep playoff runs? None of those rookies, or Love, would have been dominant enough to force Houston to change their game plan. Parker or Wiggins MAY eventually be that type of player, but not for several years (if ever). Love will NEVER be that type of player.

I'm not worked up about it. I'm truly baffled by it, and it's going to be the same conversation all summer long.

Why won't people bitch about Dorrell Wright, for example? He, IMO, was easily the biggest disappointment this season, given what was expected of him off the bench.

Let's look at "some" of the posters who want LMA gone.

cmeese, who literally posted that he'd rather have the Blazers lose so he could be right in his negative opinion of LMA. He wasn't around a lot in the playoffs.

blue9, who basically would trade LMA for a turnip sandwich, and who works a criticism of LMA into almost every post he makes. He also wasn't around much in the playoffs.

NB3, who two summers ago freaked out because he thought that a team could lose cap space if a fax wasn't the first into the NBA office, and last summer freaked out demanding that LMA be traded for basically scrubs and a high draft pick in last year's draft.

I'm sorry, but these aren't serious basketball fans having serious basketball discussions. It's people with an agenda never being wrong, instead of sitting back and seeing that this team is on a perfect path right now. Trade LMA right now for the #1 pick, and you have knowledgeable national basketball people laughing at Olshey. Then in a few years, Olshey gets fired, Lillard starts grumbling, and we start all over again.

 

How many tickets did you buy last year? How about the year before? Seems easy to take pot shots about "true fans" while sitting 1800 miles away. I wouldn't blame people for not buying tickets if LMA is traded and the team regresses, though. It would be incompetent management, IMO, and the only way "true fans" can have their say is by how much money they spend on the team.

 

I have lived here 8 years and had season tickets until 3 years ago. This whole not living in the city thing is a real issue with you, isn't it? Was your father in the service? Was your mom in the WACS in the Philippines? I heard they recruited old maids for the war.
