I honestly cant answer that right now... I'm sorry but the fact that I have absolutely zero information on what happened/didnt happen... And please realize that I would do the same for any other team players, including the Beavers. I try and carry myself with some sort of decency (not saying you or others dont) and look at other teams/situations without the homer aspect. (hence my lack of hatred for the Lakers)
is that a specific example or are you just saying what would happen in that instance? Sorry just trying to decipher lol.
so we should all grab our tar and feathers and join you jumping to conclusions based on someone accusing someone else? I'm reminded of the Nick Nolte Blue Chips line... "if I assert that you sleep with sheep, then it is alleged that you sleep with sheep!" Especially when I know little more then whats been alleged and the accused has pleaded not guilty (like James has), I'm more of a due process guy. If he's found guilty, I really doubt that he'll be with the Ducks next year and even beyond. If these charges are found to be false and he stays with the program, I bet some rival school fans still bring it up for the next decade+ STOMP
Holy Cow, did you guys see the yahoo front page? It says "More Trouble for Emerging Powerhouse" and has a U of Oregon picture by it. The article is actually kind of flattering. The article is entitled "Welcome to the big time Ducks, and the spotlight that comes with it" http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footba...-time-Ducks-and-the-spotligh?urn=ncaaf,221017 It started and ended...
according to canzanos twitter. Linebacker Kirk Alonso was cited for driving under the influence early this morning in eugene.
Wow, things are just looking prettier for the ducks as ehizzy is right about Kirk Alonso. http://www.kgw.com/news/Oregon-linebacker-cites-for-DUII-84866722.html Yes, I know there is the other thread but this is still related to the Ducks troubled program right now.
Wow, this football program just gets better with Hollands getting kicked off the team with his Facebook comments!!
I think I said that there should be an investigation, but just because there is not enough evidence to criminally convict someone following the investigation doesn't mean that the guy shouldn't be penalized. I think the University needs to judge the evidence for themselves, and doesn't necessarily need to bind themselves to a criminal conviction for punishment to be issued. If the evidence was very reliable I don't think I would want him practicing with the team, or at a minimum I would not be counting on him to be my #1 running back. Let's say he pleads to a lesser charge and spends less than a month in jail. Do you really think his college career is over? I don't think it should necessarily be over. People can make mistakes. But, if true, (regardless of whether he is convicted or not) this seems very violent to me and James would need some serious help before I would want him playing for my team. I guess the good thing is that this should all be sorted out before the season starts. I was just curoius how Wheels thought it should be handled, because he didn't think the program had a problem. My question to Wheels was if the story is true, what should the punishment be? Then, as for my other posts to zagsfan, it seemed that he was uncaring about violence against women. When, he stated that he sympathized with her if it was found true, I understood that he at least wasn't indifferent to domestic violence by athletes. I think I did jump to conclusions a little, because the strangulation allegation seemed pretty specific to me, which makes the allegations more believable. I will try to wait to pass judgment. Also, I want those Nick Nolte allegations investigated.
really a facebook comment represents a program? Seriously Nate Dogg. I remember your post after the civil war your thread about "knowing there will be a lot of flaming..." You are reaching on this one.
I don't understand why a kid gets kicked off the team for facebook comments but Blount didn't get kicked off for the punch. Both were mistakes, but are we really advocating that a kid going on a written rant requires harsher punishment than slugging someone else in the jaw?
Good people do make mistakes, it's true. But if I'm in charge of helping young men mature and a multi-million dollar PR sensitive business like college athletics, I'd look at the big picture to help determine best how to go forward. James would serve as a living example of what not to do and what happens to guys who do. Dependent on the details, he may or may not get to keep his scholarship and a spot on the team, but at the absolute least he'd be moved to the back of the depth chart. Considering the talent they have and just signed, it could be hard for him to ever see the field much again. STOMP
honestly I think Holland was gonna be gone before this. But for this I guess that sort of "insubordination" could be breaking a team rule. While Blount might not have broken a team written rule by punching someone. Even though its common sense, still just not a "rule"
because it wasn't just the facebook comments by a longshot... for example dude was academically ineligible for the Rose Bowl. I read a Bellotti quote today saying that their had been multiple serious conversations with JH about his attitude/behavior prior to this. The facebook stuff may be the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, but I'd read rumblings of him being gonzo since prior to the Rose Bowl. Lucky for the program this is one of the few positions where they have a ton of depth. STOMP
Now this is interesting... the judge says that James can't attend classes or live on campus. Guilty or not, James may be academically ineligible to play in the Fall due to the terms of his release from jail. http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindducksbeat/2010/02/oregon_football_judge_says_lam.html
