BerNEE. BerNEE. BerNEE. Some moderators should be fired if we don't get Sanders. Just pick them at random.
HIllary Clinton and Debbie W-S are combining with the league to secretly suppress any chance of Sanders succeeding or coming to Portland. W-S will lose her job for it but then will be re-hired somewhere else like nothing ever happened.
Why do they want to give the $8M difference (OK, $7M of it) to Ezeli to not play when they could split it among the players who do play and come out looking like good guys?
It may be in his mind, smoking weed gives him an athletic perspective no one else has. Does not matter...As long as he helps a team win without coughing blood from his lungs.
Because they'd only actually pay Ezeli the pro-rated portion of the $7M (about 1/3 of it if they deal for him at the all-star break), and 80% of that would be covered by insurance, so rather than paying $7M to their guys, their actual cash outlay would be closer $500K. Being perceived as "good guys" is not worth $6.5M.
Using what cap space? Dropping Ezeli frees up a roster spot, but doesn't give us any additional cap space to sign Sanders. We'd still be on the hook for Ezelie's remaining salary and the full value of his contract would count against our cap space. Not that it matters. We are so far over the cap, that even if we could foist Ezeli onto anther team, we'd still be about $12 million over the cap. Unless the team applied for a Disabled Player Exception on, or before, January 15th we can't even go that route. Anyone know if the Blazers did so? I haven't heard anything about this. If they didn't, why not? BNM
Are you referring to Larry Sanders? If you are I think this is shameful. We handle mental illness in this country like idiots. Maybe if we cared more about the mentally ill people like James Chasse wouldn't get killed for urinating on the street...
Would have been a much better target than Ezeli. If only we could ship out Ezeli+Davis for a draft pick so we could create some salary room for Sanders...
Good question. The Blazers are screwed salary wise. The new CBA really hurt, now Crabbe and Turners contracts aren't going to be looking any better down the line now, plus we can't afford Plumlee, next year, and we have the dead weight of Ezeli on our backs....Olshey isn't looking so good. Shit, looks like we are trading CJ after all. I don't even know if other teams are going to be willing to take on any of our larger contracts, because they have to be very careful what moves they make, so they don't get screwed like the Blazers, not to mention Turner, Meyers, and Crabbe are underplaying their contracts (though turner and Crabbe have been better as of late, but still the consistency isn't there)
Well then add Aminu to the package! What team would give up a pick for Ezeli/Davis/Aminu? Or Ezeli/Davis/Meyers? Or Ezeli/Meyers/Aminu?
No one is going to take Meyers, we are stuck with lackadaisical ass and his monstrosity of a contract
Is there any rational reason to believe he is worth more than the vet's minimum? I read his workout was unimpressive. Why has it taken so many months for him even to show up at a workout?
If we didn't apply for the Disabled Player Exception on Ezeli by the 15th, I'd have to ask why? Even if we weren't specifically targeting Sanders, it would make sense to get the exception and possibly use it on someone else. I believe you can still trade the disabled player after receiving the exception, and I know you can still play that player if he recovers from his injury in unexpected fashion. The player you acquire, either via free agent signing or via trade, can make up to half of Ezeli's salary + $100,000, but must be in the final year of his contact, with no options for additional years. This is the part of the wording of the Disabled Player Exception that gives me pause: "This exception is granted by the league, based on an application from the team and a determination by an NBA-designated physician that the player is substantially more likely than not to be unable to play through the following June 15." So, what the fuck is actually going on with Ezeli? Is he likely to return? If so, when? Is he not likely to return? If not, why not apply for the Disabled Player Exception? Does Neil not think an independent physician would determine "that the player is substantially more likely than not to be unable to play through the following June 15."? Why not at least apply for the exception and see? Given the help this team needs, and the salary cap and luxury tax situation, I would think Neil would want to explore every possible option to get us some much needed help. Applying for the Disabled Player Exception has no negative consequences. Worst case you get denied, and you're in the same situation as if you didn't apply. The middle ground is you're granted the exception, but can't find a suitable player to add to the roster by March 10 (when the exception expires). Best case, you pick up a player that actually helps the team. Who knows, maybe Neil applied for the exception and we just haven't heard anything about it. BNM
The deadline was over a week ago, nearly two, wouldn't we have heard if the Blazers had done that? I agree, the move makes sense, regardless of the outcome if Ezeli is lost of for the rest of the season. Did Ezeli ever get the surgery they were talking about? I hadn't heard so. If not what the hell is up...Are the Blazes hoping we make the playoffs, then he'll show up and play then? Not a great strategy if so. Our team salary is killing us, our team chemistry is on flat line, something needs to happen. I hope Neil did apply for the exception. It is possible he thought we were going to trade Ezeli, maybe had something lined up and then it fell through as the deadline passed, and we got screwed.
If we're $500K under the LT and Sanders' pro-rated salary is $501K after getting the injured player exception, we pay the LT, no?
I have no idea. Neil runs a tight ship and keeps things close to his vest. So, perhaps not. I remember hearing about it when we applied for the DPE for Oden, but that was a different regime. BNM
