I scared. I just went to an iphone 5 forum (http://forums.imore.com/iphone-5-forum/) trying to catch a clue when it'd be available (Sep. 21 is the current estimate) and whether it would be available at Verizon. Clicking on a thread that I hoped would tell me Verizon, AT&T or both Verizon and AT&T would carry the iphone 5, this is what I found: " found an interesting article about LTE phones from CDMA carriers (Verizon) and GSM carriers (AT&T) The Radio Performance Disparity of the Galaxy Nexus on GSM and CDMA - Mobile Central - Binary Outcast I am hoping people can chime in on their thoughts about the article. Here is my problem, I have ATT right now and my contract is over. LTE is on for both ATT (June 2012) and Verizon (October 11) but I am about 3-5 miles from the closest working tower but it sounds like LTE will come to my area by the end of the year. Is there anyway to tell if the iphone for Verizon will be using a CDMA2000 device that uses a VIA Telecom CDMA baseband modem? I had an HTC Rezound for a day that worked great in an LTE area but when I was in my town that only had 3g Verizon it had a terrible time working correctly, especially where I worked because of the weak signal. I am afraid that a Verizon device may have a lot of trouble with my work area and handling CDMA/LTE like the article states. Are you better off with GSM LTE devices or CDMA LTE devices. I have posted the article below: The Radio Performance Disparity of the Galaxy Nexus on GSM and CDMA The Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's Google's flagship phone that is designed to complement the Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” operating system software. With high end specifications (for 2011) and highly optimized software, the Galaxy Nexus is supposed to show off what Android can really do without any interference from carriers and OEMs. However, that wound up not truly being the case in the United States with the CDMA/LTE variant for Verizon Wireless and Sprint." Lol ... I have NO idea idea what most of that means. Is it good or bad to be a binary outcast? I thought our forum was pretty geeky and I thought I was pretty geeky, but now realize that it could be worse for all of us. There was one 12 page thread about whether the new iphone 5 should have an LED indicator light indicating you have an email. 12 pages.
New iphone 5 is officially announced...looks pretty interesting, but no near field chip (but I'm not sure I'd use that anyway.) Anyone have good pro/con scoop about it? I'm thinking I'll probably make the change from Android, but would love scoop from the ubergeeks on this board.
oh it's definitely worth it for you, they have made a ton of improvements from 4 to 5. I was hoping for some cool feature that was so awesome that I just had to get it even though I've only had the 4s a year.
i might get it i might not depends on how i feel at the store, i hate waiting for those slow ass fuckers. the technology is whatevz. either this or a galaxy S3 for me with the galaxy sIII has removable battery and i still can get insurance on it on the iphone I can put an international sim card in it.
I've heard the iPhone 5 is almost as good as the Galaxy S III. At this point it's just about which interface you prefer.
I'm used to android. just concerned with its integration with google which I use primarily. I don't want to get on the icloud because they crippled it on blackberries with syncing and probably might in the future with google.
If it's battery life is better than the android I currently have, I'll be pretty happy. Seems like I'm constantly trying to find a socket for that bad boy.
yeah but you can replace the batteris in the android. i got a 3500mH battery for my EVO (vs. 1440mH for the iphone).
i also had a 3500 with my evo but still my iphone 4s lasts longer than my evo did, somehow. And I don't have to walk around with a brick in my pocket.
yeah? hmmm....we'll see. i'm kind of back and forth with it. i think what i'll do is replace my phone one more time with my insurance then get the iphone (my phone is legit fucked up the front facing camera is all pixelated).
I'm hoping T-Mobile finishes upgrading their network in the next few months. Once it's upgraded it should be compatible with the iPhone on 3g and hopefully LTE. My 3 year old Mytouch is getting really old and I'm looking at either getting the Galaxy S3 or an unlocked iPhone. I like prefer my wife's iPhone4 work phone over my Android, but I'm sure most of that has to do with my phone being on Froyo (Android 2.2). If iPhones end up working pretty well on their network I'll probably end up going that route. If not, i'll go with the S3.
The 3G with Verizon is fast enough for what I need right now. Plus, I have an unlimited data plan, which is nice because I basically just run all of my work queries and requests on it. It has cut hours out of my day, just because of the ability to expedite things and have it synched with my work notebook.
I'd like to stay on T-mobile, so that's the big issue. I have a family plan with my wife and her grandma and for all 3 phones (2 being Androids w/ unlimited Data/txts and the other being a flip phone w/ unlimited txt) I think its under 130 after tax. I know alot of people are using out of contract iPhones on T-mobile, but until they finish their network upgrade you're stuck on EDGE (2G), which is pointless in my eyes (I think for Portland the upgrade is complete, but it's not down here in San Diego). If T-Mobile LTE ends up not working on the iPhone5 I'll probably end up with the 4s over the Galaxy. It'll still be a massive upgrade compared to what I'm using now.
If T-Mobile gets 3G for the iPhone, it's well worth it for you to have that, and keep the rest of the family on the other phones. There is nothing out there like the iPhone 4. It's simply awesome. I got mine at the beginning of the summer after finally giving up Crackberry, and it changed my work life. Instead of having to be in front of this damned computer all day, I'm able to be much more mobile. Plus, it has cut down on my opportunity time to post here, which is always a good thing.
