Good grief, do you really think that? A politicians job is to get elected/reelected and in this country you can't do that without a whole lot of money to run ads for yourself on TV & social media... thats not an opinion. The Supreme Court created this money dependent dynamic with Buckley v Valeo & Citizens United decisions among others. A vast majority of Americans are for all sorts of gun reform laws, but the NRA puts it's considerable funds (including Russian laundered $) against anyone who backs doing so.

If someone points a gun at you, they are breaking the law. According to multiple eyewitnesses & photographic evidence, the defendant did exactly that in the lead up to the melee.

In closing arguments, prosecutor Thomas Binger said Rittenhouse was a “wannabe soldier” and was “looking for trouble that night.” Binger repeatedly showed the jury drone video that he said depicted Rittenhouse pointing the AR-style weapon at demonstrators. “This is the provocation. This is what starts this incident,” the prosecutor declared. He told the jury: “You lose the right to self-defense when you’re the one who brought the gun, when you are the one creating the danger, when you’re the one provoking other people.”

If that evidence actually exists and is discernable, and he actually did advance on them first with his gun drawn I'd definitely support sending him to prison.

Do I believe that people vote however the NRA tells them? Yes, absolutely.

I didn't say citizens united was a good thing. Just that in the case of the NRA I'm not sure there was enough money involved to make as big of an impact as their voice and the votes they control.

You sell a gun to someone who uses it to kill people there should be consquences, especially private and gun show sales.

No longer get to sell guns? Partially responsible for what happens with said guns?

Apparently, kids in Wisconsin can carry guns around as long as the barrell is long enough

If you're in an area where hunting is allowed kids can carry guns in Oregon as well.
But they have to have a hunting license which requires a hunters safety course, including gun safety.

But in Oregon you aren't allowed to be hunting after dark, so you would not be allowed to carry loaded, from my recollection... It's actually been a while since I have been hunting.

How can you possibly know what somebody is going to do with something they buy from you? 99% of guns sold are never used in any crime, let alone to kill somebody.

This makes absolutely no sense. Am I responsible if I sell a car to somebody who runs over a crowd of people? What about fertilizer, if somebody makes a bomb?

I'm sorry, but that's completely unreasonable.

In Wisconsin none of that matters. That judge said so.

You can be careful who you sell it to, if you are a private owner. Gun shows in some states don't give two damns who buy their guns, they hawk them like a sham wow on home shopping network. I think there needs to be more responsibility there.

You can talk with someone to decide if they come across responsible.

No selling of guns in gun shows to people out of state.

You can't always know. But, there are ways to help not put guns in bad people's hands.

It's going to be open season there. They should probably write the law clearer, but republicans are in charge, so that's not happening.

Yeah, if we really wanted to solve this problem to the best of our abilities we'd address it reasonably at a national level. But neither side wants to be reasonable so this is what we get.

No matter what law you have, if a 17 year old with no priors defends themselves from armed adult attackers the 17 year old is going to get off 95% of the time. Unless there is very good evidence that the 17 year old was actively the aggressor the kid is going to get the benefit of the doubt. Unless they kill a cop.

That's just not true though. Every gun show I've ever been to requires a background check to sell a firearm. That background check prevents gun shows from selling (at least, hand guns) to out of state buyers.

100% true. The gun show loophole is old news and background checks have been required at them for quite some time now. And buying out of state hasn’t been a thing since probably before I was born.

Open season is in liberal-run cities across the nation where criminals aren’t punished for committing crimes, not in Wisconsin.

Ok but let’s make sure if “hunting” is the excuse for having the gun that person is in the forest/area for animal hunting, not in a street full of people.

    I love guns.

But I think the world would be a better place if I was the only one who owned them.

Where would you keep them all? You must have one big-ass house.
