Rittenhouse was brandishing his gun and therefor assaulting before anyone else did anything.
Also, one of the dead never had a gun.

Any loophole is private party transfers (which could theoretically happen in the parking lot of a gun show, or any other parking lot). Which is now illegal in Oregon, but will likely not become illegal most places.

The federal law I've proposed regarding firearms restrictions on ID is the only way this could be addressed nationwide. Everthing else crosses a line for most gun rights enthusiasts, as well as Republicans in general.

However, solving the problem isn't actually a goal of democrats, so they don't like the restricted ID solution either.

If it worked they'd lose a very valuable wedge issue...

The amendment was put there because of slavery and the fear that the slaves, which outnumbered Whites in some places, might revolt. A biography of Alexander Hamilton reveals this.

My father in law said he went to a gun show in Washington and was able to get a shotgun and a handgun without a background check.

    There were several reasons.

Whatever one, guns have still become a huge problem

It's needs to be a goal for both sides.

Dems try to bring up anything regarding guns in making laws, the Republicans shit themselves. Dems need to stop folding like lawn chairs and the Republicans need to come to the table.

But the data doesn't support that. Violent crime is the problem, though less of a problem than in the past.

That is due in large part to the wealth gap and lack of a social safety net.
We have a low gini coefficient.

Because Dems are bringing bullshit to the table and using bullshit numbers to support it.

It is designed to be a wedge issue. Gun control is a racist and classist endeavor.

Data doesn't support it? Shootings are up across the nation. There have been over a thousand shootings in Portland this year alone.

Violent crime with guns. Without the guns, violent crime drops. If people don't have guns they can't shoot people. Sure, there will be knifes and hammers etc, but those are easier to defend against.

I know it has to do with wealth gap, lack of social safety net, and inequalities, etc. It's still guns.

Please show the data that supports violent crime drops without the guns? I'm very interested...

Maybe he was lying to look cool or something. Maybe it was a parking lot deal like you said. Who knows.

He was able to get permits for the guns. So, it must have been a legal sale.

Could be. But it supports the argument that it doesn't matter what law you make. Criminals will have access to guns in the US.

All we can do is make it easier for law abiding citizens to avoid these kinds of transactions. And there is nothing easier than a restriction on the state ID of restricted individuals.

Without guns, criminals will be less inclined and feel less empowered to commit violent crimes. There will still be violent crimes. It just seems logically there will be less, or at least less people dying.

Criminals will have guns. Haven't we already established that?

There is no data that shows any gun law makes any significant impact on violent crime or murder rates.

Don't let yourself be lured into the wedge.
