Not that this is relevant to the topic, but I am always a little surprised by how often the Los Angeles sports radio hosts continue to take shots at Joel Meyers. Seems like a nice guy to me, but they sure love to make fun of him.
Worked with him a few times. Been in production meetings and he really knows the game. I'd put him at the higher end of NBA play by play guys.
Turned down? Maybe that's what he asked for, but I doubt he was offered that. Sounds like his agent talking.
I don't doubt that for a second. But he sure did something to piss off the Lakers. I get the impression from the guys who worked with him, that he might have been a little "full of himself"
I have no clue...... but I can tell you that the OKC play by play guy Brian Davis is absolutely HATED back in Seattle.
It's more likely the Blazers offered 4 years @ 6 million per and somehow that got misheard/misrepeated as 4/60. And based on the end of last season of course Meyers would have turned that down and "bet on himself". Or, it's complete bullshit.
First you say Meyers is wrong about Meyers. Then you say Meyers is right about Meyers. What are you trying to say?
oh he said 60 leave no doubt about it Im not saying its necessarily the truth its all hearsay but thats why I started the thread the sheer lunacy of the offer and then the denial of it by Leonard
.....what if it did tho right now as we sit here I think it very likely Leonard got twisted by his agent into thinking he could tristian thompson us into a max deal with the cap ready to skyrocket
Of course. Leonard's agent's job is to advise Leonard and to make as much commission as he can. However, what Leonard's agent is able to convince Meyers of and what he is able to convince Olshey and Allen of are probably light years apart. Like the distance between $60million/4 years and $6million a year for 4 years. Leonard's agent probably did (as I would have) asked for $60m/4yrs. But there is no fucking way Olshey offered that, and there is no fucking way Leonard's agent would have advised turning that down. His agent may be greedy, but I doubt he's stupid. Just my opinion, of course.
Hahaha if Meyers got offered that and he had the nerve to decline it then hes a dumb ass. He'll be lucky to even get the vets minimum at this point
This reminds me of, but I'm too lazy/busy to look it up, that huge contract (at the time) Bonzi Wells turned down. Bone head decision of the decade? Edit: OK I looked it up. As the story goes, Bonzi's agent didn't accept an at the time jaw-dropping $8 per year for 5 years. By the time Bonzi found out and told him to take it, the Kings took it off the table and spent their money elsewhere. Funny how years later someone like Meyers will probably get that, and more.
