We should have taken Swanigan at 10 and Collins at 26. Then everyone would shut the fuck up about Collins being a bust after 2.25 summer league games.

They'd be thrilled that Olshey discovered a gem at 10 and would be OK with taking a project with good defensive fundamentals and tremendous upside at 26.

So, let's just pretend that's what happened and go back to bitching about something else we have no control over. K?

I'm just not a huge fan of drafting project big men. Most of our best bigs in recent memory have been castoffs from other teams (Joel, Nurk, etc.)

I guess on the bright side, we've had better success drafting power forwards than we have drafting centers, so hopefully Collins is a power forward? I might have taken Monk instead of Collins, but I'm also not against the Collins pick either. I think he's a good defender, and we need good defenders. It's too early to tell.

As the question is "who should we have picked"....I will assume it was with our 15th pick, not as 10th (we traded for it).

My 15th pick was going to be John Collins Wake Forest.

We will regret passing on Malik Monk.

I was just coming here to post that the best player in the draft went after Zach. But, Zach will be the second best player so it isn't that bad.

Then I was going to say we got the best player at 26 so it doesn't matter... basically the same thing.

High side, he can guard KD for 24 minutes and help hold him to 30. If he can do that and make some shots over his rookie contract then it's a solid pick.

Low side, we could have taken Chris Boucher or something.

Summer League is a guard/wing oriented/dominated league. The Blazers had no guards.

    End of Summer League analysis.

So you went through and cherry picked guys that had good showings in Summer League?:biglaugh:

Cause I don't remember you talking about any of those guys prior to the draft.

Collins was who I wanted that was attainable. My main guy I liked in this draft was Tatum. I thought Ainge was a genius for trading down and getting Tatum for more assets. I've also been a very big Dennis Smith fan. Teams who drafted all these guards ahead of him are going to regret it.

That's fine. But, don't let a bad showing SL the foundation of your argument.

I said before the draft that Tatum will be the best player out of this draft.

I liked Mitchell and Bam. Kennard is the guy who has impressed me, I'm surprised how smooth his game is, he has a little Roy to him.

I liked Bam in the tourney for sure, thought he would've been a good player at 26 (this was around tournament time). There is probably a post out there somewhere, Mitchell was a guy I like more getting near to the draft but I didn't think he was a real target for us.

Kentucky shooting guards are all pretty similar, average handles with a nice 3 ball.

So you're saying we should have picked Monk?
