Spurs are good as they are. They got Zach on C, Wembee on PF and Rodman as well. They are growing and I don't think they need drama. Dame would have to wait few years to compete and his situation would be way different than in Miami. It makes no sense for Dame and for Spurs. But.. if that goes down, I want Sochan and Zach back. And picks.
Are grown adults in this thread really advocating for disregarding integrity? That’s just crazy. Unless they clearly stipulated during negotiations that the contract is only valid if Dame stays, then you have to honor the contract. Not only would you be pissing off players, you would be pissing off all the agents in the league. Jerami is represented by Klutch Sports, arguably the most powerful agency in the league right now. Forget getting free agents, you wouldn’t be able to get any agent to deal with the Blazers FO and trade their client to Portland either. “Portland is Chernobyl already, let’s just make it worse” is such a childish way of thinking.
Just trade Grant at the deadline. Why? First let him know that is an option. Second , he will play his ass off to look good for the market. Third a contender wanting to make a run would definitely want him. Back to Denver?? BKN?? Not really Germaine just yet.
I think trading Grant at the deadline will be difficult. 4 and a half years left on a 32M/year contract will be pretty unattractive.
You mean like intentionally losing games for two years in a row? Is that your definition of “integrity”?
Players like Lillard don’t come along every day. A guy who can score 71 points on any given night and hit a big shot when you need it is a rare commodity, and something the Spurs would love to put alongside Wemby. And of course a guy like Grant, who can give you 20 points a night at the forward position, would be an extra incentive.
I think that’s possible. The idea of an instant upgrade at three key positions this coming year might be too tempting for the Spurs to resist.
