I have to admit it was a fluke loss for the Warriors. Even bigger than the 118-101 beat down the Blazers put on them in preseason. Blazers seem to have a thing about making the Warriors flukey.
Can't humbly concede that another team outplayed his own. It's just inconceivable to his mopey, pouty, sore loser douche mind.
I heard on sportstalk today that the 13 3rd quarter TOs the W's had were the most in a quarter by any team in the last 8 seasons. I heard Kerr hammering their TOs and overall sloppy play post game. I'd have to hear the mentioned quote in context to really know whats what, but it doesn't take much imagination to think that their own poor play is what Klay was referencing. STOMP
Kerr didn't think fluke. In his post game interview, he said no team in the league would have beaten Portland tonight. Sounds about right, the best team in the league didn't come close.
I gotta agree; as much of a douchebag as Klay is, the statement is no different than any winner makes after a loss. They've only got 5 losses so far; they've earned the right to call ANY loss a fluke.
Mike & Mike mentioned during the 4th that Bogut was yelling at Stotts to take out the starters after they'd pulled theirs and the game was well out of hand. Personally I was loving the Dame show, but it's also easy to see why some of their guys might have given the Blazers a cold shoulder after that. STOMP
Safe to say the interview a coach gives to the opposing team's media is often very different in tone then the one he gives to the local guys. I live in the Bay Area and get my Blazer fix via league pass which cuts off the coverage as soon as the game is complete. Wanting to wring as much schadenfreude joy as I could from Friday night's fun, I caught the local wrap up. Kerr wasn't congratulating Portland very much, he was mostly chastising his guys for their lack of focus and careless turnovers especially regarding the 3rd quarter. He said something about them continually trying to erase a 15 point deficit in one possession and digging their hole deeper and deeper with dumb plays. STOMP
I like the Warriors. They have a passionate fanbase, they were long-suffering, I like a lot of their players and Steve Kerr was my favorite guest on Bill Simmon's B.S. Report for years. All that said . . . Fuck Andrew Bogut. You want somebody to ease up and not kick your teeth in? Well then play better, get stops and don't turn the ball over a million times in the 3rd quarter. I don't remember the Dubs calling off the dogs when they were kicking Memphis' ass, earlier in the season.
Anyone see Curry do a little shimmy in front of the hawks bench? Maybe bogut should worry about his own guys first before he polices the other team.
Yes I know, I watched him on CSBA. He was not happy, but under no illusion that it was a fluke either.
Lillard has chosen to take the 'chip on his shoulder' approach, and that's fine. I don't think Klay was trying to say that losing to the Blazers was a fluke, especially given the preseason result. On the other hand, what Klay said in the post game interview seemed far more obviously condescending. Anytime you call yourself the other team's 'biggest game of the year', and especially a team in position to go to the playoffs...that took a little arrogance to say after a 32-point drubbing. The Blazers seem like a bad match-up for the Warriors, and not to be taken lightly.
It was an uncharacteristic performance by the Warriors, AKA a fluke. Klay is still a douche, but whatever.
Easy retort from Stotts (or anyone on the Blazers) to Bogut, that I wish I'd hear just once: "Dude, I didn't do it (leave the starters in) for anything to do with you. I did it for the guys up in the 300's, passing over a decent portion of their paycheck for the right to come here and be entertained while drinking $8 brews and eating $9 hot dogs. I did it because no fan in Blazer history had seen an individual performance like that, against one of the best teams in history, and I wanted to keep going to see where it ended up. Because at the end of the day you, Bogut, are an entertainer--just the same as Dame and the guys in the Rip City jerseys-- not a soldier or teacher or nurse or cop, and if you don't want to be losing by so much that your coach pulls the starters with 8 minutes left then effing play better during the first 40 minutes so you don't have to worry about that, and we could've let Dame get 60 on you."
I'm not saying the W's supposed walking off without showing good sportsmanship was justified, just throwing out a guess at what might have been happening. I'll be paying attention to whats being said by their players going into the next Blazer v W's game.... btw, I hate their douchebag TV announcers. As nauseating dilutional & unoriginal Homers as you'll find in the entire league. They were completely full of themselves prior to the team taking off, that success has only made it worse... I've even heard the play by play guy imply he's part of the reason they're great on several occasions. Though the W's have several players I like a lot (Curry, Iguadala, Livingston, Green), I do enjoy their losses simply because it's fun to hear those two pricks squirm and make excuses. Granted their loses are few and far between, but thats when I turn the sound on. Didn't do that this time though as I had the PDX broadcast as an option via the pass. Among the many reasons I love the Blazer broadcast, they do a great job of mixing in as many highlight replays as possible. Other broadcasts seem lazy in comparison as so many plays I want to see again just get passed over STOMP
