So any time a player goes on a 15-point run we should make sure they get the last shot? Even if the stats say that may not be the best idea?
You should always go with who's hot. That or the leader/best player on the team. That's how sports work man. I grew up playing organized basketball and we had games in HS were our best player shot shots, that one would call questionable. But shit, he was our go to guy. He's the one you want to have the ball in his hands when its go time. That's how team sports work. In football we had good receivers, but we always went with my best friend Jamal our RB when it was crunch time. They have earned the right to lead us to victory. Thats the mentality of the game man. Go with what you know our coach used to say. Very easy to sit out here and critique, but that's how these guys think. That's how the chemistry works with these young men.
But I'm sure you recall that run was based on driving past his man and taking it to the rack, not hoisting long jumpers. At no point was anyone on the Blazers "hot" from outside last night. The run he went on doesn't justify the 30' J. I want the ball in Dame's hand...just closer to the rim.
I agree with that concept generally. But, when the hotness ends you have to look elsewhere. Also, there are may players in many sports that can get on streaks, but struggle at crunch time. Given Dame's crunch time stats the last two seasons (very large sample) I would suggest that you only go to Dame when he is in the middle of a hot streak. Otherwise, he should draw attention and defer to CJ or someone else who is hot. Dame is a good leader and can light it up during games, but his crunch time numbers indicate that he either tightens up more than usual at the end of games, or he just takes bad shots--neither of which is good.
I still lay this on the coach. I have a hard time believing that Dame would flat out tell Stotts to shove it if Terry told him what kind of shot he wanted. When you give Dame the green light of all green lights, and push him to just go with his instincts, this is the kind of thing that can happen. Terry has created this environment where Dame and CJ have no rules. And while it has won us games, it has also lost us games. I like a little more structure to an offense. I'm not a fan of this hero ball shit, and we know Dame is capable of playing in a structured offense because that's what he did with LMA, Wes, and Nic for 3 years.
That was WAYYY too spot on for that to be a guess. When is the next basement gathering? Also, Best video ever by a local band right here.....NICE DRESS GANDOLF!!!! HAHAHAHAHAH
HCP, you're missing the point. Let me put this into words you can understand. Imagine your a brilliant baker, and you make a terrific chocolate cake, one that would win the prize at the county fair. But instead of topping it off with a cherry, you put a dog turd on top. That's basically what Damian did last night.
