So if the picks don't end up being lottery picks (high chance they won't), you guys got a PG who really is an SG stuck in a PG's body and probably won't ever be an all-star, missing the playoffs (and will for many years to come), a total blowup of the team, and Trenton Hasell. I have no hate against the Nets, but it's when Nets fans start saying stuff about how they wish Dallas won't win and stuff, that ticks me off because no one should really wish ill of any other team. As much as I dislike some other teams, I don't go off saying "I wish X team finishes last in their conference next season"
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Base @ Apr 23 2008, 02:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>It's ok to hate Kidd for what he did to the Nets, but why is everyone hating on the Mavericks too and wishing them ill? Raptor fans don't hate the Nets because Carter left and went there, they hate Carter. I think Nets fans are just mad that Kidd got what he wanted and actually landed on a playoff team while their own team got to go fishing early, and all they got were draft picks that seriously, won't be lottery picks and Devin Harris, who is good, but will never be anywhere near what Kidd was for the Nets or take the team anywhere. I mean, you guys didn't make it into the playoffs in the East, while teams like Atlanta and Philly did, so that must be embarrassing. So essentially, they felt ripped off by the deal and are venting their anger on both Kidd and the Mavs.</div> honestly I'm relieved at the trade, we under achieved for the last 2+ years with little hope of getting over the hump. Personally, cashing out Kidd and getting more than I expected is very good. Maybe the best move since bringing him here in the first place. Having him was the only consolation prize on a Nets team that never really came to greatness. I have a feeling that he may not put the Mavs over the top just yet either, but I do think if you have the right pieces Kidd can still get you far. The Nets need some major tweaking and the Mavs may also. Therefore the 2010 potentially makes this a GREAT trade for the Nets. But don't confuse Netsfans collective anti-Kidd issues with all-around spite and bitterness. Byron vs. Kidd is just great entertainment, as they are former associates. Like Nellie vs Dallas last year, another great story line. Ok, maybe there's a little spite at work, but by no means do New Jersey fans have anything for Dallas like Toronto does for Carter. and lastly, not being in the playoffs this year is less embarassing than squeaking in and being knocked out in the first round, so I'm not too unhappy, after 6 years straight it's nice to have a break and give everybody a chance to heal up and not mentally scar themselves in an unwinnable situation.

I find it amusing the non-Nets fans come into a Nets forum and get all bent out of shape at this thread. Stay on your board and leave the Nets fans to decide what's worthy of our outrage. You don't see us coming to the Mavs board and defending Harris (or maybe you do... I don't go there). It's like a Hindu walking into a steakhouse and getting offended that they serve meat. Why go there?

We're mad at Kidd because he didn't want to be a Net and abandoned our team. Your mad at us fans because we didn't like being treated like that and want to see him do poorly. ive grown to hate kidd, he quit on the team and whined and caused major problems in the lockerroom, to the point where rj takes shots at him every interview and him and kidd used to be VERY good friends. he quit on the team, literally, QUIT. screw him and whatever team he's on

The Nets have their pick in 2010, I hope Dallas ends up last in the League. And as a Bay Area native and Warriors fan, it's just too easy. But that's a different story

Its a natural part of being a sports fan, especially when a player you've put so much faith and money into screws you over like that. The only thing that needs to be pointed out is that, until a few months ago, most Nets fans acted exactly like you in respect to bitterness among Raptors fans (some of them still do). The sudden turnaround is absolutely hilarious from an outsider's perspective, all the moreso because very few of them seem to recognize that they're acting like the people they were criticizing just a little while ago. ACKNOWLEDGE THE IRONY, NETS FANS!
It was worse for Raps fans. Carter wasn't a washed up old man when they traded him and they got less back in the trade. In fact, the best basketball Vince ever played was in the half-season after he left Toronto. Still, it worked out OK in the end.
As I said in the other Kidd thread... The funny part about all of this is if you watch Dallas now they look exactly like the Nets did earlier this year. I wonder how many times they've been down 20 since they acquired Kidd? While the Nets didn't seem to be down 20 by half time or down 20 all that much at all once Kidd was traded.

For some Raptor fans Vince is a crusade for them. </div> Well, there's a lot of reasons for it. Obviously there's the fact that he really half-assed his way out town in the most blatant possible way. But there's also some insecurity about being the only team in Canada (outsiders seemed to want Carter out of Toronto for years and were willing to forget what he did to us because he was back in the US). There's definitely a lot of bitterness about how little we got back (which isn't really his fault, but its bound to be attributed to him). And I think he left a lot of us really jaded about any future players we'd end up supporting. We'd spent 3 or so years defending all his faults and sticking up for him against a national media that labeled him a has-been, only to see him repay that loyalty by spitting in our faces and prove us right on a different team. Ask most Raps fans about what they hate about Vince Carter and I bet you they once vigorously defended him for the things that they'll ending up listing. Also, he was traded to a division opponent who we have to face 4 times a year (and who we've played and lost to in the playoffs), so there's never really been much time to distance ourselves from him. All this has culminated in Raptors fans despising VC as much as much as Red Sox fans have hated Clemens on the Blue Jays/Yankees or Eagles fans have hated Terrell Owens on the Cowboys. And I doubt that hate ever truly goes away.
