Lonzo Ball busts, the Lakers lose their top-five pick, Paul George goes to LA but Westbrook signs the super-max in Oklahoma City, George elevates the Lakers just enough that they only get mediocre lottery picks, no other premium free agent likes the idea of joining their sub-mediocrity. The road map to a generation of the Lakers lost in the wilderness.
Sounds great actually! However, we both know that mediocre lotto picks are more than enough to net the Lakers more superstars. What was Kobe?
It's true that Kobe was a #13 pick, but he was a bit of a special case, as compared with picks today. For one, he insisted that he'd only play for the Lakers or else go to Duke (I think that was the school) which scared some teams off. More importantly, IMO, it was at the start of the prep-to-pro era and a lot of teams considered drafting high schoolers to be too big a gamble. Today, no one would think twice about drafting a hugely talented prep prospect if it were still possible and one-and-done prospects are often at the top of the draft. Kobe would never have dropped out of the top-five today.
Yeah and Lakers fans are celebrating saying"WHERE ARE THE HATERS NOW?!?!" lol. I never thought lonzo would be bad, I think he will be good but Lakers fans are annoying. Everybody is always a hater to them. It's summer league, chill
You're not a big baller if you don't get the W. Meanwhile Tatum's line 27 points on 9 of 19 11 rebounds in a W.
Kidd didn't play all that fancy stuff what Balls does he play within the game and his self. Two different type of players. Not saying Ball didn't do some good things today. But what I have saw in the last two weeks he hasn't been one of the better rookies.
That's a good point, but a player could still say "I'm only playing for the Lakers". Didn't Steve Francis do something like that to force a trade when he was drafted? Or they could have their Dad be such a distraction that other teams will pass. There are a million ways great players will find their way to the Lakers. As much as I hate that, I don't see it stopping any time soon.
It's possible, but it's really only ever happened once. Ball was never going to go #1, so it's hard to say that he counts. If the Lakers had been picking #13, there's no way Ball drops to them, IMO, loud father or not.
Great players find their way to the Lakers. I'm not saying they'll have to come directly from the draft, I'm simply saying mediocre draft picks will not prevent the Lakers from being a great team. They don't need high lotto picks.
This kid doesn't play for our team. Mods need to take this shit to the OT section. It's not even labeled OT. Rooting for failure and then gloating afterward says more about you then it does Lonzo.
I watched the first half of his second game last night at work and Ball can really pass...but that's it...can't keep a scrub in front of him on defense...can't shoot..but he really can pass well....I still think he's going to disappoint in the NBA
Funny, I was just thinking last night that if I were a mod I would have labeled it OT by now. I for one didn't root for or against Ball until he became a Laker. Now I want him to be a big baller part of Laker failures for the duration of his contract. Also, I think the fact his dad said he would ONLY play for the Lakers fed a lot of the anti Ball sentiment on this board. And rightly so PS: Fuck the Lakers
yeah...we need to move Paul George threads threads etc then too....people have stopped putting OT in front of non Blazer threads for sometime now. I liked it when that stuff was in around the NBA threads....what should be posts in that thread seem to become threads instead of posts
