Part of the fun of being a fan for me, is ultimate optimism. I never understand when supposed fans take pride in their pessimistic approach.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Why be optimistic or pessimistic? My approach is to strive for realistic evaluation (as I see it, of course). We all want the best cases...I just don't see a point to expecting them, if it's unrealistic, or expecting the worst cases (again, if unrealistic).

I think the fun of being a fan is following something closely and being happy when things go well.

Just my view, of course. Everyone is free to be a fan in their own way.

I'm embarrassed to say I completely agree with you.

Its not about being one or the other. But, I get a kick out of the fans on here who predict doom on the Blazers because its easy for them to do. Its kind of cliche around these parts.

Nope. Read the thread. SBE was saying that Miller's quote was in fact not him saying that he was a loser but that he was trying to manipulate the refs through the press.

I don't endorse quitting on the team at all. Quite the opposite. I was merely refuting SBE's post.

    Read the fucking thread.

Ummm... it doesn't matter if we're pessimistic or optimistic. That has no impact on the game. But it DOES matter if our players are pessimistic or optimistic. Winning begins in your head and if you don't believe in your team, you can't win.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
You weren't refuting anything. You said this:

"Pop has won championships and his quote was in a national article. You can't compare him to Miller who has never gotten out of the first round of the playoffs."

It's pretty clear that you're saying that it's reasonable for Popovich to do it, it's not reasonable for Miller to do it. And you gave your reasons for why the difference...pretty silly ones, IMO.

Nothing in that refutes what SBE said, it's all aimed at suggesting that Popovich is different and can get away with the same actions.

    Read your fucking posts. ;)

I never said it "mattered." I provided my own outlook as a fan...an attempt at realistic evaluation instead of optimism or pessimism.

Read the fucking thread then post.

    Roy has the right attitude:

That is the attitude I want EVERYONE on our team to have. How can you be happy with what Miller said? Roy is a winner and hopefully, he'll slap some sense into Miller.

Here's a quote from another winner:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/ba.../eastern/news/1999/06/11/pacers_knicks_game6/

Allan Houston's Knicks were the #8 seed that season and yet they reached the NBA Finals. I never heard Houston say that his team had no chance in the first round.

Camby was on that team. He needs to slap some sense into Miller as well.

Roy sounds dangerously unbalanced. Not objective enough to be a top-flight shooting guard.

I'd like the players to be cautiously optimistic with a good understanding relative team strengths, factoring in PER, win shares and +/-.

    I like Miller's quiet rationality.

Violence is exactly the danger with people as irrationally exuberant as Roy. I can't believe you're condoning and even encouraging criminal behaviour from Roy.

Who needs sitcoms when there's this board to visit for laughs?
