Re: Lord help us I read that blog, and it was a pretty devastating analysis for those who say either Perry didn't create very many jobs and/or those jobs weren't high paying. In reality, given his political bent, the best Perry can do is to say that he helped create the atmosphere where those jobs could be created. Of course, the best the Obama Administration can say is they spent other peoples' money to create temporary make-work jobs, so Perry has the better argument. In either case, the case being made by Perry's opponents is weak at best.
The 800 lb gorilla in the room is the obvious fact that where there is no state income tax and less regulation, the economy is booming. Enough to support bigger government even.
Re: Lord help us It's interesting how when Clinton ran, Republicans harped about how he didn't serve and did drugs. When Bush ran, it wasn't important that he didn't really serve and had a drinking (and potentially worse) problem, as that was in his past (took a page from democrats in that sense). Now it doesn't matter if you sucked shit in college and didn't go past your 4 year college degree. I understand that one could argue that we need someone who is 'more like us' in the sense they aren't over educated, but really? Do you really want someone who is about as smart as you being president? I WANT someone who is smarter then all of us being president (senator, congressmen, etc).
Re: Lord help us I had a well written post done, and then I decided to do some research first. wiki posted this (which is much clearer then the crap I posted). Bold is me. States won by Democrats in 2000, 2004, and 2008 Illinois – 1 fewer vote Massachusetts – 1 fewer vote Michigan – 1 fewer vote New Jersey – 1 fewer vote New York – 2 fewer votes Pennsylvania – 1 fewer vote Washington – 1 more vote that is for a net loss of 6. States won by Republicans in 2000, 2004, and 2008 Arizona – 1 more vote Georgia – 1 more vote Louisiana – 1 fewer vote Missouri – 1 fewer vote South Carolina – 1 more vote Texas – 4 more votes Utah – 1 more vote that is for a net gain of 6 Remaining states Florida – 2 more votes Iowa – 1 fewer vote Nevada – 1 more vote Ohio – 2 fewer votes Even. Although I don't know if Obama will win Florida or Ohio this election
Re: Lord help us There are different kinds of intelligence. It's been shown that the theorists without connection to real world experience generally make the worst presidents. But if you wish to elect the smartest guy running, I guess you're putting a Romney sticker on your car. He was a Baker Scholar.
Re: Lord help us if it's Romney and Perry, and they tone down the super religious nature of their stumping and have a reasonable approach to foreign policy and don't just bend over backwards to businesses and the super rich (which none of us here are), I might consider voting for them. At this point, it's going to take a lot to get me to vote for Obama. He's basically bent over backwards (imho) for the republicans. I figure it this way. I want the economy to get better. I don't think either side will do anything about it, because one side will stop the president from doing anything (what we have now) and the other side will just repeat the same mistakes the last president made.
Re: Lord help us I wouldn't be horrified if Romney were elected. I'm not endorsing him, but I do think he'd be relatively harmless, partially because he isn't a true believer in anything other than getting elected President. Unfortunately he's dull, and Bachmann, Paul, and Perry are all entertainingly insane. So I'm hoping Romney has a difficult time wrapping up the nomination. barfo
Re: Lord help us Florida is going to outpace New York in population a decade from now. People are moving south, or to the west. And companies are going to keep those 2-3 trillion dollars in offshore escrow funds until you stop over regulating.
Re: Lord help us As opposed to a president who feels "called" to turn us into a socialist/marxist state?
Re: Lord help us well, one was said by the candidate and the other was pulled out of someones ass. So, yes, opposed to some made up horse shit.
Re: Lord help us To be fair, actions speak louder than words. Senator Obama said during his campaign that his goal was to "fundamentally transform the United States". He has taken spending to unimagined levels, took an equity interest in two of our three major auto companies--forcing debtholders out of the way, forced through an unpopular healthcare bill that was as close to a European-style system as he could get and blew over a trillion dollars on government "stimulus" spending. He envisions a government to GDP ratio of something closer to Western Europe and 20-30% higher than we've experienced before. He sure seems to have socialist tendencies to me.
Re: Lord help us The Southeastern Conference hates Perry and won't let his sports college into their league. http://eye-on-collegefootball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/31318268
love TH's ability to use on demand quotations anyone who leads their campaign with religion won't get my vote in the end, but I probably register R to vote for Bachman in the primaries to extend the laughs. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/16/all-shook-up-bachmann-flubs-elvis-birthday/ STOMP
Re: Lord help us I'll bet Perry knows what year it is, and how many states there are in the United States--two things which Obama is apparently confused about. Talk about idiots--we've already got one in the White House.
